Received a message from my dealer today. Apparently the production LCM I pre-ordered has been delayed by 10 days and the previously assigned VIN to me is now invalid (which I have no idea how that is possible).

I checked Acuras website yesterday and it says there’s one LCM in transit to my dealer which I was 100% certain was mine.

Brought this up asking for an explanation and whether they sold my car to someone else. Still waiting for a response.

My LCM that showed as in transit yesterday is now gone from the site.... All LCMs have disappeared in my area.

Hmmm might be a production issue then. I’m ok with that as long as they don’t try to pull a fast one on me.

Acura Corporate should be assigning a VIN to you personally. The dealer shouldn't be making side deals on your VIN, but I understand your concerns (as of course I am just as paranoid about it). I got the same talk from my dealer though, "We have 2 LCMs in transit, but Honda hasn't given us the VINs or if they are general allocation or pre-orders."

They had 2 LCM pre-orders and 2 are in transit. Not really rocket science, but this whole process has been an ordeal to say the least.

I appreciate the insight. I wonder why the dealer gave me a VIN in the first place.

I’m not going to pretend to know how everything works but from a customer’s point of view, dealing with a brand competing in the premium market, Communication and coordination definitely needs improvement especially since we now use these things called computers in 2023.

Maybe we got unlucky and the cars were damaged during shipping?

Agreed 100%... So maybe coincidence but suddenly my dealer has 2 TEPs in route instead of LMC... Wonder if there was a mix up in production.

Dealer update. For context I also mentioned that another local took delivery of a black ITS this week. I understand Acura builds them in batches but I wanted to see how they would respond:

“The Black one was one of the pre-orders like you. The gray one was yours, but was never actually shipped. I suspect it was never actually built. This has happened to me before. The vehicle shows up a week later in the system with a different VIN and the same color combination. The good news for you is that they are actually building the "Pre-Ordered" cars. For all 165 Dealers, nobody knows when the regular ones will be built. So the first 200 people (meaning you), will have a vehicle for about 1 to 2 months before anybody else.”

Meanwhile I am watching my trade in lose value every day even if I don't drive it...

Someone from the FB group said they received an update regarding the ITS that were in transit but suddenly disappeared from Acura's systems. Apparently, the earliest models to hit the lot had some quality control issues so they decided to pull them back to have all of them rechecked. Take this with a grain of salt as I do not know the validity of this information but it does somewhat make me feel better.
