Depending on the angle of the sun the shifter trim reflects the sun right into my eyes or my passengers eyes.

We had a laugh about it but got me thinking, anyone else run into this?

Yep, happens to me from time to time.

Anyone saw an after market shifter trim that doesn't act like a mirror? :)

Yeah it's nowhere near as bad as some other makes. The one in the 2015 Macan was the actual worst. It's like the angle was perfect for going straight into your eyes, underneath your sunglasses.

It's pretty easy to pop off, just do so and wrap or paint it. I painted mine black for now. It's a relatively cheap part if you want to experiment with a spare instead. Also, you can order the FL5 steering wheel trim piece to get rid of the polished metal on the steering wheel. I was thinking of trying to get a matching wrap for the shifter surround (gunmetal) but been lazy. That part is easy to access as well, but taping up the Type-R emblem to paint would be a pain.

I am talking about the polished piece, if you are talking about the piano black, it's similar, most do a CF overlay, vinyl wrap, or Overland's Alcantra piece. There is going to be a true CF replacement part from one of the retailers shortly as well.

it’s the polished piece not the piano black

can you share a pic of it painted black?

I have the Acura titanium shift knob and it kinda bothers me a bit that it’s a different shade/material than the trim so that might be a cool option

Right- the "titanium" knob being a slightly different shade of grey pissed off my wife the second she saw it, and that of course incepted the idea in me that it "could be better".

Even though I love the knob, deep in my subconscious there's a little guy screaming.

Same issue with me and that knob. Couldn't live with it! Actually just ordered the Acuity shift boot collar in black to match up better to the DREAM knob.

If you mean the gloss black around the shifter, I agree it was very distracting, I went with overland designs replacement for mine, otherwise I dent have an issue with the rest of the shifter set up.

Get the armrest cover too! Looks awesome. I was lucky enough to get one someone had from an FL5 and it's a perfect match.

It's definitely not the gloss black for me. I'm not a huge fan of gloss black either, but that's not what catches the sun and throws it right back in your eye, it's the metal around the shifter.

As I mentioned it's not as much of a problem in the Type S as it is for other vehicles, but it does happen occasionally. Getting the windshield tinted helps immensely too.

As for the alcantara console, I would have bought one a while ago but they were out of stock and didn't want to bother with shipping mine off for a couple weeks, and even now I don't think I'll get one if they're in stock as a replacement because my OCD can't reconcile the lack of double-stitching. I would like to do something about the gloss black but until a double-stitched alcantara or something other than faux carbon fiber is available, it'll stay gloss black.

It smudges easily but doesn't bother me as much as I feel like it should. Somehow mine has survived 6k miles and the type of driving many would consider abuse, and still doesn't really have the type of scratches people like to complain about all the time.

i haven't had this problem in mine, though my driving glasses do have the transititional lenses in them that darken automatically so maybe that's why i haven't noticed it
