There are no screws on the outside of the steering wheel. You’ll find a tab that needs to be pushed. You can use a screw driver or small Allen wrench to push in and it will pop out the air bag on each side.
I checked with an OBD2 scanner and no codes showed. Also disconnected the battery both red and black for a few hours to see if that would help bring the pops back but it did not work. Only till the battery fully died and got replaced then I got the pops and bangs back

I followed an instructional guide on YouTube. Process is pretty easy with the right tools and prep. The only thing to note is that you might need an alignment afterwards to make sure wheel is completely straight. I needed one.
