Yeah, I only plugged it for wired Android Auto as a last resort after I'd given up on wireless. Was very surprised when I subsequently unplugged it and Android Auto continued to work... I only had to plug it in once, now wireless works every time.

And likewise, I've never had to do this with my Pixel 8 for wireless Android Auto on other head units. Seems to be specific to the car+phone combination.
