This confirms I will never send away my ECU. I would add a qualifier like "unless it's a second car", but even then. No point in owning the car if you can't use it.

Itā€™s notā€¦for that Iā€™d need a garage with enough space for a car. šŸ˜‰

Iā€™ll definitely keep yā€™all updated.

You ever get your ECU delivered or did you get a new one and need to get it programmed to your car?
Stories like these are what makes me hesitant to ship off my ECU..
anyone know if I can clone my stock ECU to a new one myself or is dealer only software required? Want to jailbreak mine but also want to keep an original factory ECU..
been through 4 chipped P28 ECU's on my EG so I am happily ready to keep a known good OEM one standing by..
An ECU can be coded and programmed from an indie shop that works with Hondaā€™s and have the diag equipment for it or some auto lock smiths with like a Autel IM- model or something similar of a diag/immobilizer computer/tablet. Hondaā€™s arenā€™t too extremely complicated when it comes to program and coding but thereā€™s sometimes the random complication with the process that can arise. This ECU just need to have the VIN written into the ECU and the keys learned towards the new ECU. Then becomes plug and play, just need to ā€œjump the SCS lineā€ as Honda like to say is required. But just unplug the battery and wait like 10-15min before swapping. Might have the idle relearn too, which just let the car run for 15-20min.

Either wait for doing the unlock at home or drive to a shop that can do it.

I won't ship an ECU knowing how things are out there.

A bunch of Honda/Acura stuff
It should be noted that in the 5+ years I've offered mail-in ECU unlock (jailbreak) services for the FK8 (and now FL5 and DE5), this is the first and only package that was mishandled by a carrier.

UPS really dropped the ball here, and it's unfortunate that we're in the situation that Acura lists the ECU as a "back order" status for now.

Yeah I can't even imagine going through what they are. Acura has my coolant reservoir tank on back order too, and don't have any loaner cars to give me. I'm doing my best to not drive the car on the broken tank, but can't help some things I have to do. Saying it's coming in on the 15th allegedly.

This coolant tank thing bother's me a little bit. I think I might order one and just hold on to it so that if it does ever fail, I'll be ready!

I don't want to jinx it, but hopefully by this time tomorrow all will be resolved. Thanks again to @D-RobIMW for all he's done in the last month+.

We might even have some info that will allay some people's fears about sending out an ECU that's on perma-back order <fingers crossed>.

Ladies and gentlemen, this long (47 day) national nightmare is over!

Today I received a package (NOT from those bastards at UPS) containing a replacement Bosch ECU and, once installed, was able to start my car up & drive without the need to take it to a dealer or tech in order to marry it to the car's other systems.

Thankfully a full backup/image of my original ECU was taken as part of the "jailbreak" process and it was possible to write that back to the new ECU. As far as my car and all of its ancillary systems were concerned, the original ECU was back in the car.

Thanks once again to @D-RobIMW for all of his help in getting me back up and running!

hey if you were going to do this all over again, do you think it would be worth it to get another ecu before and just have two ecu? A stock one and a tuned one?

Not really. Assuming the carrier doesnā€™t eff up, youā€™re left with something youā€™ll never need.

It wouldn't ever hurt to have a stock, locked ECU handy. Is that worth the cost of the ECU ($250) and the clone? šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

I was thinking more if you get some mild tunes and need to have warranty work or go to dealership swap the ecu, but idk if that would work?
