Posting about this in the welcome thread got me curious what's everyone's top reasons for buying the 6th gen 4Runner and/or replacing your current vehicle? I'll share mine.

1 - big upgrade from old tech in my 2018 4Runner
2 - new hybrid engine
3 - new styling

Please post vehicle you’re replacing (if you are).
1. Lease expiring, but very concerned about the noise of the 4 banger compared to the 6 on our 2022 TRD Sport, so may just buy lease out. First year models are for the brave and modders!
2. Would like a Hybrid.
3. Like the new styling - but not the overwhelming choice of Black interiors.
4. Would like the Limited, but my tall wife refuses to have reduced headroom from the mandatory Moonroof.

I am not sure that I am going to buy a 6th gen 4Runner. I need to see one in person and drive it to decide. I used to work on Toyota's at a Dealer, and have owned many of them. Including a 3rd gen and 5th gen 4Runner. The 5th gen TRD ORP is very low miles, so I'll either be keeping it, or selling it with less than 5500 miles, if I like the 6th gen.

My 2021 TRD ORP got tbone by a red light runner, dumb **** somehow hit it so that the engine block got punctured by a bolt. Insurance wasn’t gonna pay 20k to replace the engine block on top of 15k in cosmetic damages, so they wrote it off and gave pay me market value for the vehicle.

YJ owners unite!

I've got a 94.

As for why I'm buying a 6th gen?

I'm not sure I am. It's going to be $60,000 or more for an ORP. That's absurd and I'm not sure I'm going to pay it.

There's nothing wrong with my 2013 Tundra.
I am terrible at math, and logic too most of the time, but if the US dollar is equal to $1.44 Canadian dollars, well, 60,000 X 1.44 = 86,400 which is more than $83,000 so you are getting a good deal up there in frigid Canada, right? Disclaimer, I said was terrible at math and logic.
I said “or so” I figured it without a calculator

Replacing my 2012 Subaru STi here. I've been driving subaru's for just about the last 20 years and have previously owned a built up 1986 1st gen 4Runner (see left). I've been wanting to get back into the SUV and 4Runner game for several years and was close to picking up a 5th gen but when the 6th gen was announced I immediately knew that was the route i wanted to take. I appreciate that the 5th gen is proven and bullet proof but i really wanted updated tech and the new 4Runner has it everywhere! Coming from subaru turbo powerplants I'm also probably in the rare subset of folk who is actually excited about the turbo-hybrid drivetrain going into the new generation.

Um... how much more in tax? Just curious. Here in US, the same ORP is US$59k (CDN $85k) and tax in California is ~10%, +additional doc fee and shipping.

The global sales tax for British Columbia is calculated from provincial sales tax (PST) BC rate (7%) and the goods and services tax (GST) in Canada rate (5%) for a total of 12%.

Then it's only 2% more than tax here in Los Angeles.

Alberta here, so I’m thankful we have pricing that on many models falls under what you’d expect based on the dismal exchange rate yet pay ’only’ 5%.

2022 Bronco Sport. I bought it evaluating it as a small city runabout vehicle while not considering that it’s really too small to take on the highway. I’d also like to get back into a truck or truck like SUV at least. Hauling dogs around though an SUV can be quite handy. I’ve certainly enjoyed my Fords, & am also considering a Ranger.

However considering a 4R (along with the LC) for:

1. Larger size & greater comfort than what I’m in now, without moving up to a full size vehicle again. Looking forward to many more longer road trips, perhaps all over the continent, which makes a full size vehicle ideal. But then you still have to maneuver it in parking lots once you arrive off the highway.

2. Toyota reliability & powertrain tech. I expect Toyota’s hybrid to be just fine & that they’ll look after any issues if there are any. I won’t go full electric, but a hybrid seems pretty future proof.

3. Maybe it’s time to try something new/different. I’m looking for a vehicle to keep long term & take well into my retirement years. I’ve considered that when my current vehicle is fine reliability wise, that perhaps my disappointment stems from some designed in cheapness to it, if that makes any sense. I’ve come around to realizing I’m going to need a lot bigger budget (& thankfully am not budget limited) than what I allotted myself last time.

We have a 2023 Honda Pilot Trailsport. We're 95% sure we're trading it for the new 4Runner. We love the Pilot, especially the 3rd row, but our favorite vehicle we've owned has always been a 2007 4Runner and always said we'd get a new one when it comes out. The 5% holding us back from trading is that the Pilot is paid off and we like not having a payment haha
Yup! I've got a 2007 SR5 4x4. ROCK SOLID!
