Question about possible play in gearbox

I have 500 miles on the integra now with the 6MT. The first thing I noticed when I picked it up was how tight and crisp the gearbox was. Fast forward to now, it seems like there’s a bit of play when in gear.

Does anyone else notice this, when in first or second, there seems to be lateral play on the shifter?

Keep in mind this is not my first manual. My previous 2 vehicles didn’t have as much play in the gearbox (both were cable fed shifters as well)

I just went out to my car and checked mine and it has the same lateral play as yours.

I've owned a few MT cars in my life before this Integra:
2004 WRX Wagon
2008 STI Hatchback
2008 GTI

All of them had some lateral play in the shifter. I don't think I've ever driven a manual that didn't. Even my friend's Audi R8 didn't have a perfect shifter. Which cars did you have that didn't have as much?

Believe it or not my 2022 Jeep wrangler with a 6 speed had an incredibly tight gearbox. Lots of fun to drive but finding parking in the boroughs of NY for my job was abysmal.

This thing is a blast to drive though especially in sport mode!

Note that lateral play in the shifter is not play in the gearbox. The shifter uses cables on this transmission and the play you are seeing is in the shifter. Mine looks to be about the same. Seems to be normal for this car.
