Any/all the miscommunication, lack of communication stems from Acura (and American Honda) not knowing how to deal with this situation and leading to poor customer experience. It gets worse because of greed from some of the dealers.

I'm totally fine with waiting till the hype and greed dies down. This has soured my experience so much with Honda and Acura that I'm considering other cars - despite having bought over 30 Honda and Acura vehicles over the years. Two Acura and one Honda dealership have lost my business (direct and referral) over the years because of the stupidity of dealership management and greed.

Honestly, I saw a video about Bentleys and it said that they have to wait 6-7 months for their car, and I figured if rich people can do it why can't I.

Honda dealer greed is so rampant, but I've only experienced one instance of Acura dealer greed. Sorry to hear that man.

The issue isn't the wait... it's the changing and inconsistent information, price, conditions, etc.

I waited 9 months for my Boxster, from initial deposit to delivery. That doesn't count the 6 months prior to that while I tried to chase down what dealer offered the best chance to get an allocation at MSRP, or even figuring out what car I wanted to order (I had initially wanted a 992 GTS).

I never want to do it again.

I thought my local dealer would be stupid and lose my business, but they turned it around in the end. They could have held out, told me to f off because of my demands of MSRP, fair trade offer, and reasonable "mandatory" add-ons. They were asking $5k over for their demo unit so I had all but lost hope, but they came through in the end.

All this to say, not all dealers are the same, and even the ones who may lean forward on markups have the potential to ultimately want a deal where a buyer isn't sitting there depressed during the buying process. They do all want to make money, that is literally their purpose for existence... however, they also want to run a business. The ones asking the markups may be greedy, or just don't want to leave money on the table. This is what we all want, right? True capitalism. People pay what things are worth, and the trick for dealers is to figure out what that is.

Also, about the lack of communication- not sure how that's supposed to be fixed. Dealers aren't too communicative with the press, so the only way to find out about why cars aren't in ample supply is to talk to the dealers or otherwise other people "in the know"- whoever that may be- and hope they actually do indeed know whatever they're sharing is fact. The truth is, supply chain issues are worse now than they've ever been, and the slightest hiccup (like a manufacturing plant burning down in a fire...) can cause severe issues.

Having bought 30 cars of the same brand in the past... how did the relationship(s) with these dealers sour so severely? I'm assuming because of turnover?

Problem with dealerships is unless you know the GM or a long-tenured salesperson (which I did for both Honda and Acura in Boston), the dealership or Honda really doesn't care about the relationship. However, in my case, I moved across the country and had to rebuild the relationship. And then there's the situation where GMs or the long tenured salespeople retire.

At least with Porsche, their system is well set up and expectations are well set. Even then after having gotten a couple of Boxster Spyders and GT4 from one dealer/salesperson, they still didn't keep me on the 781 GT4/Spyder or GT4 RS list... :(

No, the RS cars either don't have a "list" period, or you don't get on the list unless you bought a 918 or several GT3s. You want to talk ADM, I haven't heard of anyone paying less than $75k over.

That's why I don't even pay attention to those cars. May as well not even exist as far as I'm concerned.

Reminds me of someone who waited almost a year for his Boxster only for the shipping vessel carrying his car to sink. That, I imagine, must’ve been excruciating.

That happened to a lot of people. Matt Farah was one of them; his first Spyder is at the bottom of the Atlantic.

Yea i believe it was the same incident about a year ago?

These ships rotate in and out of the port at Emden every 7 days or so, complete crapshoot with timing for which boat your car will be on that is set months in advance. Bad luck...

I think I read somewhere where one guy lost his first car due to damage while shipping with another incident that ruined a bunch of cars but the ship wasn't damaged, and then lost his replacement car on the Felicity Ace. You just give up at that point, right?

I think I read somewhere where one guy lost his first car due to damage while shipping with another incident that ruined a bunch of cars but the ship wasn't damaged, and then lost his replacement car on the Felicity Ace. You just give up at that point, right?
Holy crap I might just consider another car at that point 🤣
