Ceramic Coating for Wheels

The problem is that it isn't 3 hours. Maybe you can coat the car in 3 hours (took me around 5 going slow and using small sections as instructed). But that doesn't include all the prep: wash, fallout, clay, 2 step polish...

I "enjoy it" so it's ok, but if I didn't I would pay in a heartbeat.

I did my rear wheels yesterday, full prep, barrels, etc. They came out fantastic, could see my reflection in the barrels, but it was a lot of work. Will see if the ceramic helps at all with the dust. There was no saving my S3, that thing caked it on no matter what I used...

Yep took me like 7 or 8 hours, didn’t even do the wheels. Was watching movies. Couple coats. Was wonderful time.

XPEL recently dropped a bombshell of voiding warranties for people using si02 or ceramic costs not made from xpel. So be wary. Of course if you are doing ceramic only then pick the best

This piqued my interest, so I looked into this a bit. It seems to really fall back on the shop doing the warranty work; it's tough for me to imagine a scenario where a consumer would interface with Xpel directly- but this will almost surely in turn cause shops to reflect any cost incurred on them back on their customers.

I'm also not 100% clear on how they'd determine what brand of ceramic was used. I think it's just another piece of legal mind games to allow them another angle to deny a warranty claim.

It's just typical corporate horseshit from a clearly unethical company.

it’s horseshit indeed. They must know many customers apply ceramic coating on their XPEL ppf as they don’t have any with built in hydrophobic ceramic top cost as STek and Hexis has.

many people who have xpel/xpel stealth already have ceramic thinking they have 10 year warranty against yellowing, orange peel or self-healing failed will have a rude awakening finding out XPEL effectively voided their warranties.

ppf isn’t cheap. They shouldn’t be doing that to their customers and it is a publicly traded company gotta make their investors happy. Highly recommend HEXIS bodyfence or STek dynoshield both have ceramic embedded and last just as well if not better.

Yeah they're just squeezing their installers and scaring their customers. They changed the warranty language in March; after thousands of customers have already applied a different ceramic coating.

The more I think about it the angrier I get.

Reporting in. Two layers of Gtechniq wheel armor ceramic coat applied on both sets of wheels. Applicator pad and double wipe method with microfiber to eliminate high spots. Two hours wait between each layer. 18 hours to cure:

next. Drove family around and unfortunately a rainstorm poured before we could make it home. Shot a quick video and it looks like the ceramic coat held up extremely well:




Was hoping the wheels would get 3 days of curing before water contact but since it was already too late I decided to put water to the test:



Water beading was impressive as everything glided straight off. Proceeded to light rinse to wash minerals off from the rainstorm. I will update in a month and again after 3 months, 6 months.

the process was fairly simple. Took about a total of 5-6 hours. Most of the time spent jacking up the ITS, removing the wheels to do a full scrub down, decon and surface prep. Maybe about an hour total to apply the ceramic coating. Let me know if there are any questions, happy to help anyone consider this project.
