It's weird how mikstore instructions are but if you look at both the Installation guide and the installation guide - civic si, it should connect to the side mirror connecter harness that is attached to door frame

You should use the Mikstore Civic mirrors as a the guinea pig since those bases aren't needed. Once I got it down, popping off the Type S painted one was a breeze since pretty much the same.

I have whtite/red combo and I personally think it looks good since it's a two tone combination. However, as you mention red is probably not for everyone and if you want to play safe, white/black combo especially if you're planning to resell it in the future.
