  1. ITS DE5 Warped Rear Brakes 10K Miles

This explains everything. Lucky ba$tard. So many great roads in that region.
  2. Dogs. Back seat cover??

My parents have this one that I saw last weekend. Thinking about buying one after I confirm that there is 27.6in of space for the bottom pad. Only drawback is that it doesn't allow someone to share the back seat if you have 3 people and a dog. This would be for a 90lb lab. Amazon.com ...
  3. Cruise control cancel

Very happy to learn we have dumb cruise control. Agree with everything you said about ACC. I only like adaptive when stuck in traffic on a 2 lane hwy.
  4. Cruise control cancel

We have standard cruise control? Please enlighten me.
  5. Key Fob Rattle

Interesting - when making this post, I pulled out the key and adjusted the piece of paper. An hour later I noticed that the key fob was warm. I re-adjusted the paper and the key-fob is cool again.
  6. Key Fob Rattle

When reading this post several months ago I folded up a little piece of paper and stuck it in there. Problem fixed.
  7. 2nd gear grind

Problem solved. My clutch wasn't adjusted properly from the factory. I wasn't getting enough stroke. It took some trial and error. I adjusted the CMC push rod followed by the clutch pedal several times but the fix was short term. After a little more reading I adjusted the clutch pedal first...
  8. Car reviews into perspectives

Another MK7 GTI owner. Loved the car until 100k miles. At that point the oil and radiator started leaking. Clutch was also starting to go, which is earlier than my previous cars (I may be expecting too much from a sportier car). Dealer quoted about $10k in repairs but an independent shop...
  9. Defect in shifter/gearbox or is this normal?

When I describe this issue, it's not from driving hard. It's most common going slow. Pulling away from a stop (particularly left turns), driving casually down a side street or in a parking lot. For my car, shifting as you describe is the scenario it grinds the most. To avoid the grind you...
  10. The Seats

FINE. I'll admit to a few levels above wife "fine."
  11. Metal Rattling while on throttle?

I had exactly the same issue. It must have gone away after 5-6k miles or I stopped noticing. Don't let it drive you crazy (as it did to me). I'll follow up to see if it's still buzzing.
  12. Bogs down in sport+ mode when not on throttle - DE5

Not much engine braking and mostly just the sound of higher revs. I've spent a lot of time on tight mountain roads and sometimes ask, "why did I just downshift?" Mostly it's a habit from riding a 400lb motorcycle where engine braking has a bigger impact.
  13. The Seats

I'd also describe them as "fine." As in "fine" when your wife says she's ok with something but doesn't love. They aren't a highlight but I wouldn't switch them for something else. Comfortable on long trips and for daily drive. Fabric has good grip but you have to lean into the bolstering...
  14. 2nd gear grind

The grinding for me is not under hard acceleration. Adjusting the CMC plunger has seemed to help.
  15. 2nd gear grind

It's a 12mm wrench if that helps anyone. The pedal adjustment on the front side is 17mm. I had to use a pair of pliers (wrapped in a little tape) to turn my CMC plunger. Others seem to be able to spin it with their hand.
  16. 2nd gear grind

After grinding 2x tonight with the clutch firmly on the floor both times, I'm not the problem. Adjusted the CMC plunger and it feels good after a short test run. Lots of great mountain driving out of Franklin, NC planned for this weekend - Hwys 178, 28, 129 (Deal's Gap), Cherohala Skyway...
  17. 2nd gear grind

My problem hasn't been at higher RPMs. Just daily driving 3k-4k RPMs. I don't really enjoy getting on the gas until 2nd gear anyway. Since it can be avoided with a more deliberate shift, maybe it's a mix of me being a little sloppy and my transmission being a little more sensitive than all...
  18. 2nd gear grind

I deserve that! There's definitely a bit of sloppiness in the shifts that grind. It can be avoided with a more deliberate clutch push and millisecond delay in the shift. But this car is more sensitive than any other manual I've driven. It has gotten a little worse after 5k miles. I may play...
  19. 2nd gear grind

Anyone else experience a frequent grind from 1st to 2nd gear? In everyday driving I have to be very deliberate with the clutch 1st to 2nd. I've driven manual transmissions for almost 40yrs (cars, motorcycles, tractors) and never had this problem on a regular basis ...well, except for the early...
  20. Sport+ mode

I've found about 3mpg better in Comfort mode for interstate on cruise control. Hit 30mpg on a recent road trip. Typically average around 22-23 for daily driving in Sport+.
