Drivetrain vibration / metal rattle sound

I’ve owned many turbocharged cars and I’ve only had one other vehicle have the wastegate rattle. That was my 2016 Cadillac ATS-V.

I know other manufacturers who have had the wastegate rattle (BMW, VW) offered a clip that applies pressure to end of the wastegate arm where the cotter pin is located. My new Type-S also has the rattle.

I’m going to pickup a VW wastegate clip and see if I can retrofit it to the Type-S.

I purchased the clip but I just haven’t had time to troubleshoot it. I’ll probably mess with it in the spring when I install a downpipe.

Literally joined this forum just for this post …I own a 2023 Type R and have been plagued with this vibration since I purchased! For some reason, it’s not really talked about as much on the civicxi forums. I guess a majority of Type R owners just accept it as a part of the “race car” feel since it’s a civic at the end of the day.

I have the waste gate rattle like everyone else but honestly, I wouldn’t have even noticed it if it wasn’t pointed out by the forums. This vibration isn’t wastegate rattle. This is a very apparent and audible engine resonance and vibration at exactly the 4k rpm mark to about the 3500 rpm mark and can really only be heard while decelerating. Don’t notice it accelerating but can feel extra vibrations in that rev range while accelerating.

most have chalked it up to the unbalanced engine and extra vibrations caused by not having balanced shafts. I have over 8k miles on the car now and the sound/vibration has always been there and not gotten any worse or better. Car pulls like a freight train since it’s tuned and I’ve noticed no other performance issues associated with the noise so …

just interesting that more Type S owners notice it and complain about it vs Type R owners
