I couldn't get my Pixel 8 to connect to the Integra's Android Auto wirelessly. The bluetooth linked up correctly, but a few seconds later a "Phone Not Compatible" error message was displayed on the car screen. I factory reset both the phone and the car, and tried all kinds of other arcane steps I gathered from the depths of the internet, but nothing helped.

The solution: Connect wired Android Auto via the USB type A port first. Once wired Android Auto has successfully paired with the phone once, wireless Android Auto links up perfectly every time.

Hopefully this can save someone else a few hours of head banging...

And likewise, I've never had to do this with my Pixel 8 for wireless Android Auto on other head units. Seems to be specific to the car+phone combination.

Once you've successfully connected your phone the first time there should be no reason to mess with it again. You need to make sure your bluetooth is on, VPN is off, and say a little prayer that it works.

I wouldn't recommend plugging it in to charge if you already have enough battery because the problems start when the phone is connected and you unplug it. If the system does not come on right away you can wake it up by putting it into comfort mode and then back to normal.

Yeah, I only plugged it for wired Android Auto as a last resort after I'd given up on wireless. Was very surprised when I subsequently unplugged it and Android Auto continued to work...

I only had to plug it in once, now wireless works every time.
