then why pay 60k for a performance variant when a 4bang will do? Type S with summer tires is 58 and pmc is 65k.

I went with a 4 cylinder. CPO A-Spec SH-AWD was $42k with ~15k mikes on it. A K-Tuner makes the car plenty fast IMO, with 0-60 in the mid to low 5s range, and it pulls plenty hard to triple digit speeds on the highway. Honestly, for a car that I commute to and from work in, run errands, etc., it’s plenty quick.

The PMC edition is a joke, I’ve said that since the day it was announced. It’s the exact same car, with a different paint color and the optional carbon fiber bits you can put on any TLX. No additional features (HUD, 360* camera), no additional performance. Just a visual appearance package that costs an extra $8k.

Just Acura products whole is just so damn disappointing, including the NSX.

No, I kind of agree. Why go to a model-specific forum just to shit all over the entire brand on a continuous basis? It's not about hurt feelings, it's about common sense.

Back to the TLX vs S4 discussion, I've owned an S4 and I think I'd have to agree with the sentiment that eventually the "performance" wears thin. An S4 is not a sports car. The only true appeal is in the "butt dyno" sense; you're not going to care how fast that car goes 0-60, as long as it "puts you back in your seat". You can have fun with it on a twisty road and the transmission tuning is outstanding. But it is definitely not what I'd consider a sports car...

And I'd also add that an RS5 is marketed as a sports car- but I don't really think it is either. It's a sporty sedan; not an ideal choice for a race track or a twisty road. But it is better than the S4 at those applications... but only just. With the RS5 you're getting just MORE of what the S4 offers. More aggressive styling, more horsepower, more chassis refinement... but really at ~$87k MSRP it doesn't really justify the step up for what it is. Unless you just want the badge... and my guess is there are enough folks out there who will justify it to themselves to keep the RS brand alive.

I think the TLX is a great buy, especially if you like the styling. The S4 is a handsome car, but personally I think the TLX is more eye-catching. And the overall driving experience is going to be close... and arguably you'll get better reliability. All for a few grand less. I think it makes sense.

For reference, I've had both a B9 S4 and a B9.5 RS5, but have not driven any Acura in about 20 years. I loved both of the German sedans, but I think I would have been just as happy in a TLX Type S for the typical use cases those cars are used for... especially if the steering is not as crazy light and numb as Audi steering. I didn't actively want to "go out and drive" on a good set of roads in the Audis, and was wholly uninterested in taking them to the track; if anything I would choose the Audis to go run some errands around town, or put the seat massagers on and listen to the pretty great B&O stereo on a long drive. I think a TLX is adequately suited to that task as well...

I fully intend to run the Integra Type S ragged on back roads, track, you name it. Different car, different use case.

I know, I just agree, the TLX TS pros and cons vs the Integra TS, the Integra TS is a better value and or more desirable for a certain crowd like most of us here. I guess I’d have to do cars like a Blackwing or M3 otherwise. But they cost way more, so I’m back to the Integra TS.

That and the M3 is Ucking Fugly. I was ready to buy one and also the M2 which looks like a 80’s box car in the front.

As I said earlier, that 200 number is misleading. It's basically the number they will have at launch in early June. After that Acura will be making more per the order/reservation system. Don't let any dealer make you think that there will only be 200 Type-S around the country for the whole of 2023. I would run the other way if the dealer is trying to charge you markup on it.

sorry that wasn't my intention, I had high hopes for the TLX but damn it was so disappointing, same with NSX. They're expensive and not competitive, I don't even consider the TLX-S a performance car. They really need to do better. I understand the FL5 was a project headed by the Father of NSX Type R and S2000 to make the final ICE Type R with a bang. Only if they put that kinda passion in to their other products.
