Sales manager at my dealer said the same thing….if I choose not to take the one I pre order I’ll go to the bottom of the list.
Interesting that I'm not the only one to get that type of message! It would seem the dealership stands to benefit from every reservation they get channeled toward their dealership, but maybe Acura is watching out for dealerships seeking extra allocations?

What color you going for? So annoying that they’re doing 200…..WHY not more, or by how many pre orders they get? Can’t tell me they only have enough parts in the bins for 200 cars….
My guess is for a couple of reasons.

1) they want to do something cool similar to the NFT for the first 500 base models. The first 200 ITS’ won’t be numbered or anything special other than have a VIN of 200 or less at the end.

2) The base preorder was a nightmare. People placed orders and some dealers had no idea they were sent money and an order and placed orders for color combos that didn’t match what people preordered. Dealers were supposed to receive that preorder batch and order the exact spec requested. So many who preordered got cars AFTER people who just walked in to buy.

There was a survey sent out specifically asking about the preorder process. So clearly they changed it. And I think it’s a low amount so they can guarantee those 200 ship before launch. Then the rest just go to dealer allocations like normal cars do and dealers do their own preorder lists, which most we’re doing anyway.

Seriously……like I get the set colors, but build enough for people. I don’t get it….it’s not like these are “launch” editions with placards.
There will be a ton more than 200 available next month. The 200 is just something slightly special because you get it a week early. If you don’t get in on the 200 it’s not a super big deal IMO. You’ll still easily get one next month.

I've had one dealer ask that I make a reservation even if they don't have my preferred specs because it'll help others get theirs (I can respect that, it's something I offered to do), and another dealer insists that if I make a reservation I don't intend to accept at delivery, it'll count against their allocations for the year and I'll go to the bottom of their list (I don't think this guy knows what he's talking about, or at least he doesn't seem knowledgable).
Yeah that’s wrong. Dealers already got their allocations and placed orders. If someone gets one of the 200 and sends the order to that dealer, it’s technically an additional allocation. It doesn’t eat one of the ones they’ve already ordered.

I think Acura took the preorders out of the dealers hands, which is great. Dealers placed orders for X amount of ITS’. If you’re one of 200 and order one of the preset color combos, I think Acura just sends that car to the dealer.

Remember 50 of each color are being made for the first 200. And there is only 1 transmission choice. So Acura could very well have those 200 already ready to go. They just need to know where they’re shipping them too. So unlike before where the dealer still had to place the order for your preorder. Now they don’t. They will get one of the 200 just sent to them on top of what they already ordered.

That's what the dealership said who wanted me to make a reservation regardless, and I tried to explain that to the one that said I'd go to the bottom of the list, but they insisted...

You seem SO confident in this…..I’m told by my dealer they have gotten 9 for the rest of the year, but the 200 will go out over next couple months, new allocations won’t ship until August. That’s a ways away

I've had one dealership say they have 9 coming for the rest of the year, another that says they have 6--similar dealerships, both high-volume. But I'll also say time flies, August and year-end will both be here before you know it.

Sounds like a good suggestion. If you get one of the 200, you essentially come off their list. So if they only had 6 allocated, that previous 7th person gets one now.

There is no reason to not be confident. It’s common sense. Acura said it officially arrives next month, not August. That’s not including the 200 that come out prelaunch. Why would they say the official launch is June if the 200, Pre Launch units won’t be fully out until August? That would mean the official launch, since they said all 200 would be early, is in Aug/Sept. but they said June. So normal non preordered models will be coming in June. If you’re 6th on the list of their 6 allocations, sure maybe it won’t be June for you. But it isn’t going to take them 7 months to make a few hundred units. The ITS is a mass produced car. Additional allocations will also be added down the road. This always happens. Initial allocations are the safe estimate. Dealers will get more later.

Even the hand built PMC TSX Type S built and delivered all 350 units within a month.

My best guess (from talking to a few different sources) - is that the first 200 will be delivered early to mid June - probably start shipping out in 2 weeks.

If you have an allocation with a dealer that will be 100% unaffected by the initial 200 at launch. The regular allocations with full gambit of colors/options are still expected to start hitting lots in June.

One item you SHOULD confirm with your dealer is if you have a deposit, will you be able to get a refund or have that amount transferred to your online preorder. I have a deposit and did not get a warm/fuzzy that it is transferrable.

Due to all this - I plan to wait for the color combo I prefer instead of 'settling' for the preorder just to get a car a week or two earlier.

So keep in mind that the "list" is the dealership's list--it's their call how they handle it, but I'd think they'd want all the extra allocations they can get, providing the reservation allocations are in addition to the reservations they have for the rest of the year. It's essentially an extra sale.

And I don't think it makes sense to think of the 200 reservation vehicles as "pre-launch", this is Acura's launch, delivering soon for an unknown on-sale date in June. My 2 dealerships maintain they're getting 9 and 6 allocations for 2023, respectively, but have no insight as to color combos or delivery dates for those vehicles. I imagine they'll get information on what reservation vehicles they have coming along with regular allocations sometime after tomorrow. Maybe there will be some regular allocations in addition to the reservations, maybe not. Real insightful guess, I know.

My dealer is well aware of my color preference, regardless, however, they did ask me to go forward with the online reservation. They didn't give me a reason, just asked me to move forward. I'll contact my dealer today for additional details.

Perhaps. And if that is the case, I'm okay with it.

Edit: Plus, they're an MSRP dealer...they should get rewarded ;)
