ADMIN REFERENCE - ADS Module Conclusions; Master ADS/Dampers/Springs Part Numbers File; and FK8/FL5/DE5 OE Springs and Changes
_____
This article is aimed at consolidation all things related to the ADS module swap topic and is to summarize all conclusions thus far from our recent testing work. You should read the prior 3-part articles for more details.
NOTE: If all you care about is "ride stiffness", STOP and don't read further. ADS is not about just ride stiffness and is about total body control - something very special as designed by Honda. If you care about overall solid handling and body control, then read on.
Honda developed the Type R (and Type S) with special systems and software that take into account quite a few sensors and the active dampers to result in an exceptional handling FWD platform. The BCM (Body Control Module) works in concert with other subsystems:
We took the liberty to pull together a master ADS/Dampers/Springs most updated OE part numbers file. Along the way, we discovered and have validated ALL the changes/updates and most importantly - FL5 front springs and DE5 front springs have changed since each model's introduction. Yes, Honda had quietly changed the front springs. Pay close attention to the p/n's in the file. Notably:
Feel free to use the attached master file for your reference and comparisons. We've included Spoon and Eibach Pro Kit springs only as aftermarket reference springs we highly recommend. We do not recommend much stiffer springs (50%+ increase over OE springs) that are too low for the 3 models and may have negative impacts on the dual axis design suspension, shorter OE damper life, and increased noises. Therefore, Swift and Eibach Sportline springs are not included as a point of reference.
OVERALL SUMMARY:
Read the reference articles posted before and take all this in totality: Body control is our overall objective - not just "ride stiffness or softness". That IS the total experience and great mod to do for 17-19 FK8 owners when swapping in the LE ADS module. FL5 and DE5 owners may consider the above recommendations as well for your personal benefits.

Honda developed the Type R (and Type S) with special systems and software that take into account quite a few sensors and the active dampers to result in an exceptional handling FWD platform. The BCM (Body Control Module) works in concert with other subsystems:
- VSA - Vehicle Stability Assist
- TCS - Traction Control System
- AHA - Agile Handling Assist (akin to torque vectoring)
- ADS - Active Damper System
- Damper height sensors at each corner
- Three acceleration sensors (1 front and 2 rear)
- 17-19 FK8 owners: As I've written and will reiterate for the FK8 owners, you WILL achieve better suspension handling and body control by swapping in the 21 FK8 LE ADS module. This is especially important if you have changed your OE springs to aftermarket stiffer springs. See Part 1 article link below for details of all the improvements you'll enjoy.
- 20-21 FK8 owners: You may or may not want to touch the ADS module since it has the same 10x updated ADS sampling rate as the LE ADS module. Only difference is the LE ADS module accounts for lighter BBS forged 20" wheels, 50 lbs less car weight, and slightly softer LE front and rear springs. We don't see a benefit for you to change to the LE ADS.
- ALL years FK8 owners: You do NOT want to do the 23-24 FL5 ADS swap. Our testing and conclusion results were very poor suspension performance and significant degradation of body control. There is zero benefit to swap in the 23-24 FL5 ADS module.
- 23-24 FL5 owners: You may want to consider swapping to the DE5 ADS module should you want less bounce, especially in R+ mode. We personally wouldn't do it ourselves and leave it up to you. See important 24 FL5 front spring change notice below.
- 24 DE5 owners: You may want to consider swapping to the 23-24 FL5 ADS module should you want better body control and reduction of the stock increased understeer (a little to a lot) relative to the FL5. Those who argue about this understeer need to drive the FL5 and DE5 hard back to back to realize it. See important 24 DE5 front spring change notice below - this also is a key reason why you may want to consider the 23-24 FL5 ADS module swap.
Notably:
- ALL FK8, FL5, and DE5 front springs are now the same: ALL are 4.7 kgf/mm linear springs.
- Changed for 2024 FL5: Front springs went from 5.0 kgf/mm (2023 FL5) to 4.7 kgf/mm.
- Changed for 2024 DE5 during mid-model year: Front springs went from 4.5 kgf/mm to 4.7 kgf/mm.
- Rear springs for FK8, FL5, and DE5 remain unchanged: FK8 4.2 kgf/mm and FL5 and DE5 at 4.5 kgf/mm
- Reduction of manufacturing costs by using common parts.
- FL5 front springs to reduce bounce in R+ mode.
- DE5 front springs to improve body control.
