Armrest holding me back from pulling the trigger

I'm glad I'm not the only one that is affected by the water bottles in the center console issue! To fix this issue (and I pretty much always have a 750mL water bottle with me), I just use the cup holders that are in the back seat. Just as good depth-wise and it doesn't get in the way of the shifter.
