Hi everyone,

just got the new integra an loving it so far. Quick question, when I switch to sport modeby moving the shifter from D to S, the dash doesn’t change to sport mode. Is this the expected behavior?

thank you!

The "d to s" is transmission only; doesn't affect drive modes.

Your experienced behavior is normal.

The reason why the dash doesn't change is the vehicle has not changed to sport mode. You need to use the drive mode selector to sport to be in "Sport mode"

Thank you. What else changes besides the transmission? Maybe the suspension?

The adaptive dampers, throttle response & steering are all linked to the "dynamic mode" drive modes. The "s" selection is only transmission tuning.

Basically, all the "s" mode of the shifter does is enable the paddler shifters full time instead of reverting back to "d" a few seconds after using them (at least IMO with the RDX and MDX)

So the "S" gear on the shifter only enables the use of paddle shifters and doesn't actually do anything to change performance or drive behaviour?

As far as I know, that is correct.

My integra is a 6mt, however, it was in the service dept for over a month total in which time I had 2 rdx and 1 mdx loaner. That is how both of those models functioned and I would bet my own money the integra follows the mold.

The models I drove would downshift ~2 gears with the "s" enabled as well as enable the paddle shifters. Both would not allow any change in or out of 1st gear no matter the drive mode (sport, normal, comfort) it was in. 1st gear was computer controlled, no choice about it. Beyond that, it would hold gears and shift if it reached a pre-programmed threshold (redline for upshift, potential stall for downshift). Without the s enabled, the paddle shifters would allow for up/downshifting but would revert back to the "d" mode in ~10seconds.

The sport/normal/comfort modes in any of these do no change any total power output but do change the input gain of the throttle pedal as well as some change the steering weight (integra) as well as if adaptive dampers are installed these are said to also change (I don't feel a difference in any of the models I drove including my integra).

I think I went beyond what the question was.

The "s" or "d" setting are different from the "drive mode" settings. The "s" mode can be set in any mode but does not change the "drive mode." I hope this makes sense.

S on the transmission does change the shift logic vs D. You can also still use paddle shifters in D, it’ll just go back to D after a few seconds. In S it will rev higher and downshifting will transmission brake harder. Also the suspension only is adjustable based on drive mode if you have the tech package.

In general automatic D will turn lower revs than automatic S with the CVT. My CVT will turn the engine at a lower RPM level while driving a constant 70 mph on the freeway in automatic D mode than it will in automatic S mode. S will never actually shift to as high a gear ratio while cruising, regardless of whether in automatic or manual modes, so for the lowest freeway RPM level one would have to use automatic D mode.

I pretty much always use manual S mode, and the manual gear ratios do appear to be identical between D & S when shifting manually.

I have a similar question regarding the different modes, does everyone's car turn on with the mode set back to Normal? In our Audi, if you turn the car off in "Sport" it'll turn back on in "Sport"

But every time I turn off my 6MT, it will go back to Normal drive mode, I'd love to have it stay on "Individual" so I don't have to select that each time I start the car

Yes, they all start in Normal, if turned off in Sport or Individual, or Comfort if turned off in Comfort.

Individual mode allows you to disable auto stop. The EPA doesn't like that, and their rules require that if auto stop is going to be used in calculating EPA mileage, that the car turns on with auto stop activated. So thanks to the Federal government, you have to push the button every time.

Interesting, thank you so much! I assumed there was a reason, so I appreciate your insight into it
