Was curious to see whether any current ITS owners on the forum opted for the upgraded titanium shift knob.

Car and Driver had a rather cheeky comment about only springing for this option if you’re interested in branding the h-gate pattern on your hand in the summer. Is it actually that thermo-conductive, or is C&D just being dramatic?

I’ve thought the idea of a weightier shift knob is intriguing, but have no idea if it has a noticeable effect (positive or negative) on shifter feel.

Any opinions/observations are appreciated!
I like the Ti knob overall, but it came installed on the car and I haven’t used the stock, so I can’t really comment on how it compares.

One thing I will say is car and driver may be talking out of their butt. I went from a 2018 civic type r with the stock shift knob, which I assume was aluminum, to the type s and the Ti shift knob and it doesn’t seem to get nearly as hot. Not sure why that is. If it is really made of titanium, maybe it has a lower thermal conductivity or something when compared to aluminum, but I’ve noticed it is noticeably cooler when I get in my car in the afternoon and I don’t even have tint on my ITS yet.

Yes I think aluminum gets 7-10x hotter than titanium. In my experience this titanium shift knob hasn’t burned my hand but it still does get very warm to the touch when under the sun. I think the titanium is cast impregnated with other metals however. It is heavier than the stock oem knob

I had a stainless knob on my prior car, and I have the Ti knob on my ITS.

There's no comparison. The stainless knob was dangerous, legitimately. The Ti knob gets warm; that's it.

That would make sense, since titanium is used in many applications for heat dissipation. I think people still use titanium fiberglass wraps for automotive or motorcycle exhausts to reduce heat.

At least Acura made the right choice going titanium while CTR got aluminum

It's actually the original S2k knob. Part #s check out, and it comes in a Honda box, with an S2k label, lol.

Same titanium and color too? Maybe they had a bunch of titanium knobs sitting around for decades lol. Either way they didn’t have to fix what is already great. The weight and feel of holding it is perfect

Yep, same part. I don't think it ever left production. Could have been motivated by cost-saving, could have been intended as an homage... effectively serves as both.
