I am just now hearing this. Sheesh, I use that to gauge when the engine is finally warmed up to give it the beans, especially in winter. A disappointment.

Just pull the valve cover cap and stick a finger in there. Then you'll know!

It has a “temp gauge” that should be fine for determining when it’s up to temp. But yeah, I would prefer a numeric water AND oil temp gauge. I’ll probably end up exploring aftermarket options for this.

I’ll likely never track this car but I’d imagine people who do tracking and autocross would want an oil temperature gauge

Yeah not so much for autocross but a definite nice to have for any track session. Auto cross runs are around a minute or less. Typical HPDE is at least 15-20 minutes at a time.

I don’t think it’s as essential as some make it out to be for casual use. The gauge will tell you if you’re running hot and you pull in. Presumably these cars don’t suffer from the same overheating issues as the FK8. Some FL5 guys have reported some issues but from what I’ve seen there are extenuating circumstances like aftermarket mods not holding up, extremely hot temps and/or a combination of both- so not casual track use from my perspective.

If you’re looking for more than “casual” track use, then you’ll either get a car with a “real” temp gauge better suited for the track- or you’ll get an aftermarket temp gauge.

I didn’t realize HDPE are 15+ minutes long. Although it will be interesting to see how heating stacks up to FK8 and FL5. I don’t know how much air flow and aerodynamics make a difference on most of the same components.

The ITS can be immediately shut off without waiting a few minutes like some other cars with turbos is that correct? Some have asked me that and I told them I don’t wait or wasn’t aware that I need to for this vehicle

In cold weather engines are not warmed up untill oil temperature is up which takes a long time compared to radiator temperatures I believe.

Oil does take longer... but unless you routinely blast to redline within a few minutes of backing out of your driveway in below freezing temps, I don't see an issue.

Type S in the house!
The FL5 shows an estimate oil temp. There is no sensor on the oil pan.
