I noticed recently that the navigation steps in the HUD are truncated at the beginning of the street name rather than the end. This doesn't happen in the Instrument Cluster, which is weird. I'm using an iPhone with CarPlay, and the direction isn't truncated in Apple Maps, so it seems like the Acura infotainment system is somehow reading the step incorrectly.

Has anyone else seen this? If so, have you figured out anyway to fix it? Does anyone with Android Auto see this issue using Google Maps/Waze?

Yes, this is an issue specific to iOS 18 and has nothing to do with our cars. It seems Apple Maps is truncating the street name when sending the turn-by-turn data to the car. It seems to only happen on street names longer than 6-7 characters (and truncates it down to 5 and a "..."). The discrepancy in the placement of the "..." is our cars' fault, but it still shouldn't be trimming it to only 5 characters (that part is 100% Apple). The audio and CarPlay display show the full street name but the HUD and instrument cluster truncate it.

After updating my phone to iOS 18, I tested my wife's phone (still on iOS 17 at the time) in my car and it displayed fine. I see this issue on my phone in my wife's car (Toyota) as well.

I've complained to Apple about this in the iOS beta Feedback app, and also started a thread on their forum (see link below). Other people have commented saying it happens in their cars as well (Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Acura - I'm sure most other brands are affected by this as well). I'm hoping Apple sees all this feedback and fixes it soon.

There's no reason "IL-83 South" shouldn't be able to fit completely. 10 characters and a space (I don't remember if it's South or just S, but either way it should all fit).

"Chicago Ave" should also be able to fit but is truncated. 10 characters and a space.

"Main St" fits just fine. 6 characters and a space.

"N Cass Ave" (8 characters, 2 spaces) and "W Traube Ave" (10 characters, 2 spaces) also getting truncated on my wife's Toyota.

My Apple car play was unusable when I first updated to iOS 18. Had to reset the head unit, then communication seem to improve.

Interesting, yeah I hope this eventually gets fixed! Appreciate the context, at least confirms that I’m not the only one.
