So just completed the first hand wash of the season and noticed literally everywhere these small rust colored spots on my car. They're literally everywhere, except for the front end.

Literally hundreds of black center, rust circles. The car now has 7,000 miles on it, simoniz ceramic coating, and I live in Central New York.

I've taken it through a touch less car wash 3-4 times max over the winter as it was a bad one. Other than that, clean microfiber cloths and foam cannon spray. Hand dry with clean towels.

I've had the car for about 8 months now...anyone else have this issue with the paint? Holy cow I wish I had gotten a full PPF.

You may have to zoom in on the pictures.

Find one in an inconspicuous area and gently scratch at it with a thumb nail.

If you're lucky it's brake dust or other metal contaminates that latched on and it should dislodge by scratching at it. It's going to need more than a regular cleaning to take off, likely a clay bar. Take it to a detailer if that's the case.

If you're not so lucky, it's rock chip that broke through the ceramic, clear coat and paint exposing the metal and it's surface rust due to exposure. Bumpers wouldn't have any because they're plastic.

I'd say the former is more probable but I couldn't tell you either way which one it is, you'll need to check.

Almost positive this is iron fallout. You can get an iron fallout remover spray and maybe a clay bar. I'm not a detailer but had lots of iron on my white ITS. Could be brake dust, or environmental fallout.

Do some YouTube searches and you should find what you need in terms of a process.

I appreciate the quick replies. Freaked me out I've never encountered it, and also have never had a white car.

The spots did scratch off with light pressure.

I washed my car last weekend. Found a lot of similar spots, but they washed away with a little pressure.

Don't know what they are...

If you live in the city it could come from anywhere. Construction, road work, industry, some shitwad grinding through some poor sap's bike lock, the list goes on. I was working with some cable installers pulling fibre through old conduit in the underground parking of our building, and we had to cut the lock off one of the pull boxes to gain access. They were just going to let the shavings rain down on this sucker's car parked right underneath. I at least had the dignity to try collecting some of it on a piece of cardboard, but definitely didn't get all of it. So yeah, the hazards are everywhere.

Get some iron remover spray and hopefully the rust stains go away too.

Based on the photos, most of these locations are on plastic components. Its safe to assume 99% of these are simply iron fallout, which does tend to stick to ceramic in my experience. A simple clay bar and/or iron remover during the car wash will get these off easily.

Picked up some iron remover as one of the spots did come off with some ~light fingernail pressure.

It's 45° and sunny today so I'll get out there in a bit and try it out. Gonna be a PITA because some spots are very small speckles and they're all over the side body panels so it's gonna take some time. I'll update later.

Updated: Grabbed some Adam's Polishes iron remover spray the other day.

Car was already clean so rinsed it off with the pressure washer thoroughly prior to spraying small sections. Purple color appeared, let it sit for maybe a minute then sprayed it off.

TLDR it's a pain to get off as some spots needed a 2nd/3rd spray but it's coming off. Thanks everyone for the replies!
