Down to what temp have you safely used the OEM ITS tires?

So I live in the Dallas area and have a short drive to work, like 10 miles or so. Contemplating whether I want to drop ~$1400 for some all season tires or just keep the summers and be careful. I have the option of any given day to simply work from home if it is too cold. We are already in mornings below 40 degrees and my car is garaged. I was looking at some Toyo Proxes Sport A/S that would be just under $1400. I don’t expect I would need to use the but about Nov to early Mar. What kind of all season tires are folks getting?

How cold does Dallas actually get over winter?

January of this year it got down to 8 degrees and my pool froze over. Two years ago I went to the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth when the temperature at kickoff was 13 degrees. We have had cold spells where it does not get out of the 30’s. My pool freeze protect is set at 35 degrees and I have had times where it has run for days without stopping. I am contemplating just not driving it when it is too cold vs spending $1400 for all season tires and am torn……

You can get the dws06+ for 1100$, but I hear you. I personally wouldn't drive on summers at very low temps, but I'd have no heartache about storing it inside or outside. Worst case scenario outside, one of the tires fails and bulges or pops. It's just one tire. I wouldn't drive on it in those temps though for fear of a pothole or road debris causing the fragile rubber to fail.

I would ask yourself "if I'm saying yes to no tires, am I willing to give up driving the car for set times out of my control?" - I know it sounds like I'm being captain obvious, but I think only you can really answer that one . I had the same thought but for winters vs as in my area because I'm also borderline for parts of winter. I ultimately concluded I don't care if it's icy outside, I still want to drive my street car on the street so winters it gets.

Exactly, that is where I am at. Am I ok with the inconvenience of not driving on days when it is too cold and that is out of my control. The DWS is $36 more per tire than the Toyo’s.

The toyo should be cheaper than 1400$ then, by a lot.

I personally don't like toyo much for typical tires. They used to be good, but they haven't kept up since 2010 and many brands are better now. I like the toyo rr as a throw away track tire because it's so cheap, but their street oriented stuff leaves a lot to be desired. Unless the toyo as is 1/2 the cost of the dws, it's not worth it. Even at 1/2 I'd struggle to justify the toyo vs conti.

Well they are only $264 a tire, the ~$1400 is the OTD price with all the stuff. But yea, I was thinking if I get all weather I would go with the Continentals. But in speaking with other Dallas folks it appears those that have summer tires typically don’t change them out for all weather and have been fine. Think I will just do that and be more careful when it is colder.

that's what I do in NC also, just take it easy in cold weather.

I just got 265/35/R19 Pilot Sport All Season 4's for ~$1250 installed a few weeks ago from Discount Tire. I'm in the PNW and temps dipping below 45 made me not want to risk potentially low grip when it's cold and rainy or even some random light snow. So far they feel about the same as the stock tires (can't push limits due to road conditions obviously), though my speedometer is off a couple of mph at highway speed due to the higher aspect ratio, but I knew that beforehand.
