Gauge Brightness

Upon trying to make the Gauges for rpm and speedo Brighter , I had noticed it does nothing and there is no change in actual brightness when trying to adjust. Is there a trick to this ?

I tried dimming my gauges on the way into work this morning, while the headlights were on, and it worked fine.
