Historical Honda/Acura pricing vs loaf of bread (for those statistical nerds)

New member today! I registered because tomorrow I pickup my new Integra Type-S and I knew coming here would inflate/deflate my ego teach me more about my new car.

I did some historical price comparisons of my new IT-S, my 2008 Civic Si Coupe and added a couple of classics for comparison. I compared these models to see what the price (MSRP in USD) would cost in bread. Bread prices based on US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

TLDR - I swear Honda/Acura sets prices based on a loaf of bread!

1998 - Integra Type R
MSRP: 23,500
Bread (loaf): 0.86
Cost in bread: 27,326

2024 - Integra Type-S
MSRP: 51,800
*Bread (loaf): 2.02
Cost in bread: 25,644

2008 - Civic SI - (Coupe)
MSRP: 21,110
Bread (loaf): 1.41
Cost in bread: 14,972

2023 Civic SI - (Sedan)
MSRP: 28,500
Bread (loaf): 2.02
Cost in bread: 14,109

2004 - RSX- TS
MSRP: 23,320
Bread (loaf): 0.97

Nice post! I did this with my ex's hand-me-down 2000 Accord V6. The price of that car new was almost exactly in line with a 2018 Accord 2.0T using the BLS inflation calculator. Car manufacturers have done an amazing job keeping the prices of cars in line with inflation while continually adding in features. Compare a 2000 Civic with an 11th gen!
