I live in Arizona, where the state puts gravel at the sides of the freeways for landscaping, so projectiles are quite common. That said, I am on my 3rd windshied already. All of the rocks that hit were small and propelled by the tread of the tires of my fellow drivers. The first two I saw coming and “pop” and a couple hours later I have a 6-10” crack in my field of vision as driver.

USAA is wonderful and I have a zero deductible for glass so SafeLite did the replacements. The guy at the SafeLite I go to (between my wife’s car and mone past and present, I am a frequent filer there) had trouble finding the first replacement but was able to locate the second one quickly, so in the period of 2 weeks I got 2 new windshields.

Nothing can be done to prevent these cracks until never, Just a part of having it 82 degrees F this afternoon in mid-December. God bless all of you!

Thanks. I was wondering about that. I need to get the front wrapped for the same reason.

I see a gravel truck on the highway at least twice a week and most of the time they are in the left lane. My windshield gets slammed with rocks. I have been lucky so far but I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

After getting numerous rock chips on the front of my previous cars I have learned to not follow any car closely on expressways, freeways, etc.

Have you tried plastic paint film protectors, they have applications for windshields and headlights also.

I got the Acura protection plan ($25 month) and it covers road hazards, paint chips, windshield, tires and rims, etc. I have a scratch on my hood, in a few days I'm going to see if Acura will honor the contract or give me the fine-print shenanigans.
