It's not an absolute confirmation but after many spirited drives throughout 2024 , my insurance did not spike in 2025, so they're not getting my data.

I really didn't think they would because I don't use the Acura app, don't wifi/hotspot the car, and I turned off the data sharing but I was paranoid because it wasn't limited to just 5mph over the limits.

I'm still curious to what extent the driving data is recorded and stored onboard, if any. I imagine they have things like max rpm to make sure they're applying warranty correctly, and there is the black box that records everything but it only locks the last 30 seconds before an accident. Curiosity is more toward can they see how many times I've been over 90 mph?

I believe there was an article published approx. a year ago that stated Honda was no longer sharing this data, after seeing pretty severe consumer backlash.

Granted, there's no guarantee that's the case or that it will stay that way.

I'm still not convinced the Type S has the telemetry module required to actually collect and send the data anyway... the features that everyone was worried about were not available on our cars. But that was never confirmed either.

What's funny is that for a personal update, I did end up actually shifting my career a little because data and how it's used has always been interesting to me, and now it's a huge part of my job. This very topic helped push me in that direction... and I'm glad it did, as it will only get more and more relevant with the advent of AI, and even a few months head start at this rate is helpful!

I agree re: telemetry. The Type-S lacks all the connectivity features of the base Integras and appears to have no independent internet connection. I believe it would have to piggy-back on the app / CarPlay / AA, etc. to transmit anything.

To opt out I needed to connect the head unit to Wifi for an Internet connection. I'm sure doing so gave it a chance to upload the data 😆.
