You're right koatic. I posted an update with a shade darker right above your post. The darker shade of red matches the interior red and looks a lot better than the bright red I initially had IMO.

Just went a shade darker and it looks significantly better IMO. I can live with this setup for at least a few days and see how I feel.

this is much better. Side by side that deep red looks good, the brighter is almost looking orange. Now it matches your tail lights and other red

Sorry, still looks riced. Now if you have any colour other than black, I highly recommend removing the black underneath the chrome. Acura did us dirty with that crap.

First, I'll say I'm usually against changing badges, but genuinely wanted red badges on my DE5, so I get it. The darker red looks better on the car than the brighter red, but the black emblem doesn't work with either red. If you want the red, I'd go with the chrome emblem. If you want to stay with black emblems, keep the backgrounds black, otherwise, it looks a little cheap.

Now if anyone really wants to do red badges (and do them right, the way Honda/Acura did them on the DC2 and does them today on the FL5), I'd recommend you search for a fabricator willing to do a glossy domed one-piece chrome Acura logo set in red resin. This is how the FL5's emblem is done today, it's how the DC2 emblem was done back in the day, and I believe it's how Acura would do them today if the red badges weren't reserved for Type-R models. I think it'd have more of an OEM+ look. I think the FL5 emblem is the only one Honda is still doing set in resin, every other model runs a chrome badge set on the body which can be swapped for black.

These guys may be able to do it, or guide you in the right direction for a company stateside that does this type of work: https://www.yofab.com/products/custom-emblem-design

If I were doing it, I'd want to get an emblem sized to fill the full oval frame on the front of the car, easy peasy. For the back, I'd want one that eliminates the raised platform the rear A-mark is mounted on. I'd want something approximately the same size as that oval platform, with a combination of tape and tabs to fill the mounting points of the OEM platform, applied directly to the car body. The a-mark should be chrome, and the red should match the red used in the FL5/DC2 emblem.

Here's another (probably more capable, but likely more expensive) custom emblem manufacturer who does domed resin emblems: https://precisionbadgesusa.com/pages/car-badges-emblems

It would need to be shaped to fit the badge space too. the platform essentially creates a flat mounting point. Without that the badge would need to be concave. I suspect someone will eventually make a proper flat one like the type R badge. That would be worth the switch I think.

The red background always reminds me of a clown nose. The dark red is better than the bright red, but I’d consider painting the actual “A” & circular surround a dark red with a black or color matched background if I wanted red. I’m biased with black emblems though, I think that it always looks best to hide or delete them whenever I can. I do like the black & red side & rear badges…although I did get rid of them.

Really appreciate everyones input here as you all helped me decide faster. I do like the dark red under the black emblem, but it does add an element of "cheapness." Black on black is the final decision and looks best IMO. I missed the contrast with the chrome at first, but the black has really grown on me.

I like the black on black on yours! Mine is grey and I really want the black with the red background. Wish it was easier to find and order!
