I got my 16 yr old carbon with red interior. Has 1450 miles and he was stopped waiting on a car to turn and a car came up behind and rear ended him which in turned pushed him forward into another car. So front and rear damage. Body shop said this will be their first new integra so still waiting to see how long it will take to get parts and the price. He is guessing 15k. Anyone had to repair one yet? Were parts hard to get?

First, glad your kids okay.
Second, DAMN, my first car was $2,000 and I bought it from my grandma. I wasn't allowed to have a car till I could prove I could afford one. I didn't have a 20K+ car till I had a full-time job out of college.

Yeah I get that. When we started used car shopping the prices were insane. He was going to get our tlx with 120k miles and I was getting a new mdx but we figured it would only last 3 more years and then my daughter will be 16 in 2 years so that means another car. Figured we will buy them each 1 nice one to last through college

3 years? Based on what? 120K is almost nothing for a modern drivetrain. They easily last 300-500K or MUCH more if they are maintained.
Last through college? That Integra should last EASILY 10+years long as they are maintaining it. There is a good reason you still see so many 20+year old Hondas on the road. They last a LONG time. That integra should last till your Kid has a kid.

No judgements here. We didn't have public transit and my parents gave me my first car. Although it was a beater, I didn't earn it for sure. Glad you and yours are OK, my younger (30 year old) brother is still terrified to drive after the wrecks from people hitting me and my older brother at that age. I do agree that a well maintained tlx should be fairly reliable will past that stage, but that's "on average" and you know your own car better than anybody else.

Keep us posted on the process. Sure hope they can save it, but then there's the concern of residual value being lost with used car values dropping.

Glad your son is ok, being rear ended like that is so shitty since there’s nothing you can do to avoid it

That's just me. I usually drive to around 200k miles and then get something new. My rdx is getting new struts right now. We have 95k miles on it and thankfully getting it done under warranty....barely. we have been driving the service cars for 2 weeks now and 1 week was a new tlx and last week was a new rdx. I'm ready to trade up.

Exactly. And my daughter was with him going to school. He is a shy kid and now this accident has him so scared. They didn't see it coming. They were hit by a nissan rogue and hard enough that my son hit his head on the steering wheel.

My first was a Ford escort with 100k miles on it.
I am so mad about the lost value. We are in kansas city missouri which is a fault state so we are keeping all options open. Waiting to see the estimate. I had this car ordered and it wasn't coming until Nov. And then found the exact one in another town that was going to be a service car but they sold to me instead. I know I can file a lost value claim and get 10 percent since it was new. So we can prob get $3500 and then just invest that for him so when he does go to sell it would help with a down payment. I think realistically prob won't be his last accident based on how crazy people drive now so at least that money could gain instead of depreciate. Hopefully double it in 7 years and he would have 7k to help with a new car or however long he waits.
He does love it though! He asked if he could just drive it wrecked. The hatchback is stuck shut but the alarm says it's open. The computer shut down all the extras like the auto off, lane departure etc. They said the new hatchback is 2k jist for the part. They have it taken apart to see what all to order. What a mess. And we have to drive the rental bc insurance won't let a 16 yr old. So the corolla is def not an acura. Lol

Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad everyone is ok.

Per your question, I had something similar happen at a light though at lower speed and much less damage (hidden by the plate thankfully). It was 3 weeks to get into my preferred body shop for an estimate and they are guessing 2 months for the parts (rear bumper and bumper cover).

Oh wow. Thank you for the response. In my mind I was thinking 3 months from accident to complete the job. I feel fortunate the body shop took it the day after the accident and started to take it apart. So frustrating. Sorry your dealing with an accident too.

They are lucky. Both good kids though. Straight A students and both in year round athletics. As long as that remains there isn't much time for jobs. My dad bought mine at 16 bc I was in sports but my sister wasn't and she had to get a job and pay for hers. My husband's family the grandparents pay for college and first car. However both of his parents are deceased now but we used money from them to purchase. At least it gives us more time to prepare to pass that along to however many grandkids we will have. Really does make sense. My husband's first car was a big rusted blue monte carlo. His gpa owned a car junk yard and sold auto parts.

Glad everyone is ok!

My first car was a 95 civic with a manual and a very questionable history 😅. But all my friends had shitty cars and freedom. Good times.

When my teg got hit in the parking lot one body shop said a factory painted rocker panel was a 2 week special order from the dealer. Another bodyshop didn't even have appointments till end of November. 3 months sounds about right.

Honestly best thing for him to do is go back out and drive. Every accident I've had has been in rain/snow and other people hitting me. It's resulted in 2 totaled cars and makes me TERRIFIED to drive in heavy rains. And this is over 25 years of driving. The only way I'm KIND of getting over it is forcing myself to go out driving when it's raining out so that I force myself to get used to it. Accidents can cause PTSD but it's one you just must confront.

It almost sounds like he's sitting too close to the wheel potentially with no seatbelt if he hit his head, it doesn't look like it was a hard hit. I'd suggest you look up good driving positions and see how it shows vs how your son sits in the car. He may also want to follow other cars farther if he hit the car in front of him. As some INS companies will deem that HIS fault depending on the impact speed of the car that hit him.
