Hey. I keep hoping it’s not normal and can be fixed, but am afraid it may be something we have to live with. I’ve torn the interior apart and know it isn’t loose wiring. I disconnected the nc modulator in case it was feedback from the fake engine noise and not the case. In doing some digging on civic forums, it appears this affects FK8/FL5s too. Some have mentioned a fuel wastegate, but I think it may be the electronic throttle body that Honda uses. The sound only comes when throttle is applied and would make sense if that’s the case. Either way it sucks and ruins the driving experience because it isn’t as faint and really ruins the engine/exhaust note. I can wheat at times over music at normal volumes and hear the most in 2/3rd gear since that’s the gear used most in 40 mph speed limits and the noise at that speed isn’t loud enough to mask it. Less noticeable during hard acceleration but still present. A tattoo gun sound that makes your engine sound that much more like a kazoo and something I have not experienced from any other car manufacturer. I wish it didn’t bug me as much as it does, but for the price of the car I find it hard to swallow. I still haven’t been contacted by Gary to replace the LED and just shot a text to my rep this morning. If you do go take it in, be sure to ask for a ride along up front so you don’t waste your time have the shop foreman gaslight you. I wouldn’t mention what you think it may be and ask him to explain why the car is buzzes under throttle separate from the engine/exhaust note. If you find a solution please share so I don’t end up passing the issue to someone else.
Yeah I’m worried that might be the case too. I could live with it if it was just a small buzz at constant rpm, but mine gets really loud as I rev up to high rpm, louder than the exhaust of the car. It really seems to me that something is vibrating in the dash somewhere, but I doubt a dealership is willing to tear the thing apart looking for it. I’ll update if anything changes.

I hear ya. Mine gets fairly loud too. I can hear it at acceleration 40-50 mph range and only when the tire noise rises at 60 mph on highway does it fade. I wouldn’t get your hopes up with Gary Force…this is a no win situation for everybody and will leave with disappointment.

can confirm that it is coming from the engine compartment. I was able to roll down my windows in a parking garage and hear it slightly louder. The car does a better job of dampening the lower engine sounds but not so much with the shriller sounds. I imagine the sound is louder under throttle/load.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I’ve been looking on some civic forums and some people seem to think it’s injector noise. Maybe it is just a noise the car makes. When I get off work, I’m going to have my wife stand outside the car and see if she can hear it while I drive by.

I did some experimenting and I think my car has two separate buzzing sounds. There’s a very faint buzzing that seems to be coming from the engine bay that is common with all of the integras/civics. Then there’s an another buzzing coming from in the dash right near the steering wheel that’s much much louder and it happens during high rpm or when driving on rough surfaces. I’m definitely going to have Gary Force take a look at it.

I think I have similar noise near the steering wheel during high RPM and rough roads. I didn't spend much time investigating it. Please keep people posted on what your dealer discovers. I plan to visit my local dealer in a couple of weeks.

Will do. I set up an appointment for next Friday as they are booked for this weekend. Is your buzzing a metallic sound kinda like sticking a can in your bike tire?

Not sure yet. I heard it a few times. I have the car for about a week. It's loud enough to annoy me.

Finally took my car in to Gary Force. I listened to your advice and asked to ride with the mechanic so I can show him the sound. He agreed that it was abnormal and will fix it. They had me reschedule for when they have a loaner car available cause it’ll take some time to trial and error the problem.

The mechanic was super cool, but the service manager I had was a giant douche. I see why you had a bad experience. Seems like they are used to people who don’t know/care about things with their car so if you try to do things properly and discuss the issues they feel like your wasting their time or something.

It’s progress! Please keep us posted when they find the issue.

Good luck getting this sorted … my car has a metallic sound to it as well but it seems more pronounced as i come OFF throttle … almost made me wonder if it’s a KERS type thing. Probably not. it almost has a metal on metal sound like a brake pad rubbing but doesn’t quite seem to fit … intersted to see what y’all come up with .

Just got the car back. It ended up being the heater core like 4ourth was talking about. They told me some of the piping was too close together so they adjusted the spacing. No more buzzing!
