I just got a call from local Honda dealer in California and he offered a Type R for $5k over. So $48795 vs. ITS at $51400. I've kinda gave up on the Type R and was all in on the ITS whenever my allocation calls but now I have a big decision to make. Shit!

I just went through this a few weeks ago. If I didn't find my car at MSRP the next day I would have bought the Civic, and probably been pretty happy with it.

For me, the aesthetics and overall feel of the Integra makes me not want a Civic anymore- but that's only after driving it for the past week and a half. It's really grown on me! But especially now that it seems like folks have started to figure out how to get the FL5 to sound the way they want it to, I still see no downside in the Civic unless you're just really in love with the Integra.

I made a list of the pro's and con's of each car but every time I go and add things up. It comes out to be too close to call and It's a draw at this point but being able to pick up the Type R today might win it out. Let's see what happens when I arrive at the dealer they might have a bunch of added dealer accessories BS or front license plate drilled into the bumper already.

If you have an ITS allocation at MSRP with no forced accessories add-on, then I think you have a great leverage to get the CTR at MSRP too. If I were you and I really intend to get the CTR, I would bring the proof to the Honda dealership and force their hands. You have nothing to lose but time. Either way you will win! Worst case is you still buy it at $5K mark-up, but you have lots of medium case scenarios, like lowering the mark up, negotiating some accessories add-on, etc.

Thanks for the tips I will definitely use that for leverage. But $5k in California is unheard of. I popped into the civic type R forums and someone in my area was super excited when he paid a $7k mark up this week and the dealership is far from the Bay Area about an hour away in the boonies. Either way I've have the patience to wait it out it's only the first year of production.

Yeah I kept telling myself I had the patience to wait it out too. Lol. Look at my avatar- and if that wasn't there it would be a red Civic.

Everyone's philosophy will differ, but I've figured out that life's too short to wait around for things to happen. If you can enact change, it's best to just do it. Driving a car is a HELL of a lot better than chatting about it on a forum.

See what you can do to get the Civic. You'll know if it's the right decision when you're in there. If it's as you say and they move the goalposts with add-ons etc., then you'll know to walk. If not, drive your Civic home today and be thrilled.

Assuming you're keeping the 718? I wish I could have. I do miss mine- but I'm also looking forward to going Porsche shopping again in a few years. And I've said it on here before, I'll say it again- I don't miss much of the Porsche when I'm on a back road in the Integra. This thing is truly incredible in its element.

Main thing I miss is being able to put the top down, and that glorious 4.0...

I totally agree about driving a car is a whole lot better then chatting about it. After my Porsche was delivered I almost disappeared from Rennlist :D And yes, I am never selling the 4.0 I think it's the best sports car Porsche currently makes minus the NA 911's. But even those have grown is size and feels more like a grand touring car. I sometimes regret not getting the GT4 at the time both was offered to me at msrp. It is unbelievable since I purchased it at the very peak of the car market not to mention peak shortages and in the Bay Area. I have to say I got very lucky being a first time buyer. But I spent more time on the back roads then on track so I think I made the right choice. The CTR will make up for missing out on the big wing! If a PRP or MBP ITS was available today I would go for the ITS. First world problems

I think you're in a great spot if you think of it this way: the dealership has effectively set the ceiling at $5,000 over MSRP, and you can negotiate from there. If it's taxable, it's negotiable. Very little is off-limits.

The salesperson/manager might be married to the thought of getting an extra $5,000 over MSRP, and you can use that to your advantage--agree to $5,000, but only if $3,000 of that is in the form of accessories, for example. It could get you all-season mats, a trunk tray, seatback protectors, accessory shift knob, lighted door sills and/or pattern projectors... you do you. There are a lot of accessories that require very little on the dealership's part to install.

You can tout this as a win/win for both you and the dealership--they get their "$5,000 over MSRP", but you have something physical to show for it.

you’re definitely right, should never sit around waiting for things to happen. For those who are financially tight, waiting would be okay. For others who are stable, paying a little bit more is reasonable. Whether you’re paying a higher price for ITS or the same price for bmw, Porsche etc., it’s not that relevant because at the end of the day you’re paying for the exact car that you want

All very good points here. Getting some free accessories would definitely make my decision so much easier. The truth is that subconsciously I’m hoping that this deal goes sour and I end up just waiting for the ITS. But either way I’m going today intending on purchasing. Thx 👍

Having options is a huge benefit--pre-ITS, the CTR had essentially no direct competition, and dealerships were clearly running with it. Now that the ITS is available, they're forced to compete, and competition is great for us as consumers.

What color is the CTR?

I did notice Type R prices coming down at the same time the Type S was released. It is hard to justify paying more for a Type R when the already inflated price of the Type S is the more high end or luxury brand. The CTR is black but my first choice would have been the CW.

Can't go wrong with the Black, White, or Red CTR, IMO, but I'm quickly learning Majestic Black with the ITS is a NUISANCE to keep clean... it'll be easier once I get ceramic on there and can seal it.

Hoping you can get a deal today!

Thx. But I ended up passing on the deal. He didn’t budge on the price and wouldn’t give me any free accessories. The car also had some paint protection added for $700 and door edge guards plus wheel locks. So the adm essentially went to $6000. He was willing to take the equity from my trade in and sell the car on paper for $43795. But after weighting my thoughts at the time I passed. The car looked amazing but I just couldn’t see myself living with it. It’s like that hot girl you don’t wanna bring home to meet your mom.
