It's been done previously. You need the CTR head unit and gauge cluster. You will lose the ITS HUD, ELS and a few other ITS specific functions.

Yes. That stuff is most of what differentiates the ITS from the CTR. If you're losing all that just for the gauge cluster, may as well save 10 grand and get a CTR.

I love the ITS , the two areas they should have done better for me are the seats and the instrument panel, ill keep doing some research on this and maybe update soon

I agree with you. The seats I don't mind too much since 99% of my driving is on the streets. I'm sure I'll have a different opinion when I eventually take it to the track lol. I sat in the CTR at the auto show and found the seat bolsters there were a bit too narrow for my liking.

The instrument cluster would be nice, especially given how capable the ITS is on the track. I don't like how limited we are with being able to see critical information such as oil temps, boost pressure, etc, all on one page. Furthermore, if you do the pedal dance and disable traction, it completely hides all the information in the speedometer dial to display the giant "TRACTION CONTROL IS OFF" warning.

Only other gripes I have are: door cupholders are small and kinda useless (coming from a MK7 GTI where I could easily fit a Yeti or Gatorade bottle), and the poverty switches for memory seats and auto start/stop. I get if they don't want to include those features, but when I'm buying the highest trim of a vehicle, I don't want a constant reminder that they cut costs.

Otherwise, I absolutely love the car and hope to keep it for 10+ years.

Dude the memory seat button is also a major key I'm finding more recently. I want to upgrade some of these types of pieces but I'm finding it's much more technical due to all the technology associated with cars these days. not as bolt on as say ITR of old

It's been found that some of this stuff communicates via the CANBUS, so once wires and the correct electronics are in place the ECU(s) recognize them as if they were was originally there. The challenge can be figuring out the correct wiring and obtaining parts at a reasonable price.

Sometimes there are more creative, less costly ways to accomplish things than simply swapping out parts, but with that comes increased complexity and a bit of trial and error from what I've seen.

I never was a fan of the s2000 style gauge cluster. I like the old school analog ones. I remember when my friend had a LS/VTEC and it was cool to see the needle to way past the redline.

Also, you went from gauge cluster to talking about cupholders.

Yes I did. Everybody knows the quality of the gauge cluster is directly proportional to the size of the cupholders /s.

Here's a thread where people were braking down the memory sest problem. Afaik, there's no solution yet.

The only thing I've done to my car is add a homelink mirror, but that was a relatively straight forward swap.
