PPF and ceramic coat pricing??

Hey just wanted to know some opinions.. getting the PPF on all the front end and mirrors and the ceramic coating for $2200.. is this pricing good? First time getting it done

When you say front end, you mean full front, correct? That is not a bad price at all.

$750 for a partial front. Dealer already installed resistall when I purchased the vehicle. Not sure the price for ceramic coating but I have Adams Graphene which is user friendly that I apply every 6 months.

Yeah I replied to you in the other thread before I saw this- especially including ceramic, that's a good price.

edit- also very, very important to note; you may be able to get it cheaper, but installer skill is very important. At $2k-2500, you should expect an impeccable installation. Some will charge more and maybe they go above and beyond with "paint correction" that may or may not be needed (or even done at all, despite them claiming it is... pretty much impossible to tell once the film goes on), or removing body panels, etc... but a good job CAN be done for that price and it's what folks should expect.

But I've seen bad PPF jobs and honestly I'd probably have an M2 CS right now if the PPF job wasn't so horrendous it literally caused a whistling noise on the mirror loud enough to need to be drowned out in the cabin with the windows up. It looked horrible too, to the point where I passed on buying it at a really good price...

Try to get at least one example of the work your selected installer has done before you commit, and inspect the hell out of it before you drive it home.

Also shoot for Xpel installers, their warranty is 10 years (for Ultimate and Stealth, at least).

He's using Xpel! Thank you yeah he's supposedly very reputable and like I mention giving me a different price hr normally charges since it's a friend of a friend. He also was honest about a few things which felt good. Like he wasn't just trying to sell me

That seems like a good price by me, but I am in a high cost area. What are people's thoughts on door edges and cups? They are included with my install, but am debating doing it. I have a wife and kids, so it makes sense to do it, but worried the lines will drive me crazy...

Mine came with door edges and cups and I’ll be honest, I almost couldn’t tell.

Where I live a partial front, mirrors, lights, door cups, door kick plates, and rear trunk opening on bumper runs about $850. A full front runs around $1500. This is for wrapped edges.

Ceramic coating by itself is pretty easy, it's the paint correction that's costly. On a brand new car with minimal factory paint defects, this shouldn't take much work. I do my own and I'm OCD, so it will take me about 4 hrs to paint correct a new car and another hour to ceramic coat. If you figure $150/hr x 5 = $750 for a retail equivalent.

Obviously, on a used car the paint correction cost can be substantially more, but new cars are usually good. It takes about an hour decontamination to clean the paint that has not been throughly done by a dealer....and most don't do a good job. Done properly this makes a big difference. When cars are shipped by rail, they get a lot of iron contamination and it requires tge right solution to break it down and cleanse the paint before anything is done on or to the paint.

Does this involve them removing the clear coat before applying ppf? If I understand it correctly clear coats are what provide UV protection for paint fading. Can they even reapply a new clear coat before ppf?

The purpose of PPF and ceramic coating is to be applied over the clear coat to protect it and the paint underneath. If your question is about the decontamination or the paint correction, then yes this is applied to the clearcoat.

Decontamination is using chemicals to remove unwanted materials that have become imbeded on or in the clearcoat. Usually this is removed using a clay bar along with chemicals to strip off surface contamination. Virtually no clearcoat material should be removed, just cleaned.

Paint correction is a broad term used to describe a process for correcting damaged or defective paint or cleacoat. This could include "orange peel" which is usually uneven clearcoat, paint runs ( excess clearcoat or even paint), but more commonly surface scratches, chips, or shapes (can include clearcoat and paint.

Because any damage to the paint (color) it also means the clearcoat in that area was likely also damaged if caused by a scratch, chip or ding. To correct just a clearcoat defect the clear coat must be polished out by removing some of the clearcoat around the affected to make it less visable.

In the case of paint damage or missing paint, color touch up is applied and then polished to become smooth. A light clearcoat is applied over the paint color and once again polished to a smooth finish.

Once th decontamination and paint correction is done then ppf and ceramic maybe applied.

Note, the nature of PPF film is that ppf alone can hide minor scratches and paint imperfections, especially on vertical surfaces like bumpers, sides of fenders, but can also be effective for micro defects on horizontal surfaces...it all depends on your tolerance for imperfect paint.

Most people can will be satisfied with a claybar cleaning, light polish, and then PPF or ceramic coating on a brand new car.

This was very informative. I thought I would just forgo PPF previously, but I love the look of the car and would like to preserve it for as long as possible.
Nice to know clear cost would be cleaned and protected, now I just have to decide what to do with the platinum white paint.

is ppf supposed to go over edges? If not the dirt on edges becomes visible after a while. Considering matte ppf but have no idea on the long term maintenance that comes with it. Ideally I really only want to pay for ppf once, with little washing/cleaning as possible.

That is about what I paid for full expel ultimate ppf and graphene coating on whole car and wheels on my fk8 by local shop here near sf Bay Area.

Gotcha! I'm probably gonna have my dealer have someone local do it, and try to get some accessories thrown in
