Replacing OEM Pilot Sport 4S tire

I curbed my wheel and the tire popped. I read that our 4S tires are different from the ones sold off the shelf. I'm guessing I would have to get them from the dealer but I'd prefer not to. A regular 4S tire should be fine mixed with the ITS specific ones, right?
Does anyone know if the special compound is for road noise or handling?

To my knowledge there is absolutely no difference between the PS4S that comes on the vehicle and one bought from any tire store.

According to TireRack, our cars were equipped with MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4S DT1 from the factory. The only difference I can tell from comparing the two is that DT1 is manufactured in the US and regular is in France. The thread width on the DT1 is 9.2" vs 9.6". DT1 is $355.99 vs $382.99. Other than that the specs are all the same.

There are two type of PS4S for our cars.
OEM (DT1)

The OEM will have a small code "DT1" in the sidewall after the manufacturing date. That is how you can identify them.
I couldn't find official documentation that list the differences other than a few post of what people think.

I have a full set of OEM tires I'm selling for $700. I will also sell you a single tire for $175, including shipping.

They have 2500 miles on them, great condition, plenty of life left in them. PM for more info.

That is fascinating to me. I had looked on tirerack and noticed the US v FR denomination but didn’t realize the US version is tread depth 9/32” versus 9.5/32” and the width is 9.2 v 9.6. I’d love to know why they would do this.

Yeah these tires are apparently subtly different. It's not the first time OEM tires vary slightly from non-OEM; Porsche has been doing it for years and I think BMW does too, and who knows who else...

As for what difference it makes? Probably minimal. But all things being equal I'd probably try to get the OEM version.

I know BMW PS4S use a mix of compounds in their OE tire.

Acura parts for less sells them for $299.

The DT1 has the checkered sidewall. The "regular" PS4S has 'michelin total performance' whatever that means. I also noticed that the regular tire is 'eco focused', maybe lower rolling resistance?
