Titanium Shift Knob

Was curious to see whether any current ITS owners on the forum opted for the upgraded titanium shift knob.

Car and Driver had a rather cheeky comment about only springing for this option if you’re interested in branding the h-gate pattern on your hand in the summer. Is it actually that thermo-conductive, or is C&D just being dramatic?

I’ve thought the idea of a weightier shift knob is intriguing, but have no idea if it has a noticeable effect (positive or negative) on shifter feel.

Any opinions/observations are appreciated!

They were half joking, any metal shift knob will burn the crap out of your hand if left in a hot car. Theoretically TI would retain more heat, but I think they were just making a joke about losing the leather wrap.

I have the knob but haven't installed it yet (still waiting on my car) but have used them in the past with good results, other than multiple minor burns

It comes down to personal preference, some like a light shifter for more feedback and notchiness, heavier shifters take more effort but feel smoother. Height comes into play also as well as shape in your palm, so see if you can try one of the demos while you can to see if you like it.

I plan on getting it. I have Blox Racing shift knob beanie made specifically for this knob & then I'll cover that with my little novelty item. In case anyone is looking too close. They've been warned!

I have the titanium knob. It’s awesome! I put the stock knob in my 7th gen accord.

Any metal knob can burn your hand but I’ve never had much off an issue. It’s not a big deal to me to just finger tip it while I wait for it to cool. The titanium knob’s lack of a leather wrap changes nothing for me in this Georgia heat.

How light is it? I dont remember if its the exact same one that I had in my ITR. But I ran a Spoon Ti shift knob for years and it was as light as an eggshell.

That one was likely hollow, this is solid so it is supposed to be heavy. It is rather heavy for its size, but it's pretty small so no where near the weight of the TI shift knob I had on my S2K (ball shaped, forgot brand).

I like the look a lot, but I have big hands and am a little worried it will end up being too small.

In the S2k after work there was no way I could even finger tip shift. I had to stash a microfiber towel to shift for the first few minutes on 100+ days. Granted, it's wasn't like the steering wheel was much better...

Oh so it isnt hollow. Thanks for the info. I still have my Spoon Ti and prefer using it to get a really accurate feel rowing through the trans. It was amazing paired with the S2k.

To be fair though, any shift knob felt good on the S2K

I bought it and will likely go with something else soon. It is cool that the titanium knob is the EXACT part number that was in my S2000. It's interesting to be driving a car in my late 30s and grabbing a knob that I drove with in my early 20s.

Just want something a little heavier.

Also considering the Raceseng Stratose but it's expensive. I do love that it would match the interior perfectly though.

how do you install the knob? When i pull down the alcantara there’s barely any room or play, so do i just use a - flat head screwdriver and put it along the sides?

Yeah if its your first time removing the shift knob the collar stay n boot is on there super tight. I used a flat head n wrap it in a towel. Others might have tried other things but a plastic pry tool didn’t really work for me. You will also need a 14 mm open end wrench to help unscrew the shift knob after that.

For some real the stitching on the stock SK bothers me. My hands are super rough from working out so I don’t have soft hands at all but I can feel the sticking n it semi annoying but I do like the stock SK besides that fact. I might be looking to upgrade also. Not sure about the the OEM TI on tho. I like heavier SK with Delrin if I’m upgrading.

I only run JDM knobs but never had the chance to use a TK knob. It looks awesome.
