So, I followed the instructions with my phone in the car, and set up Android auto.
The problem is, when I click it on the car infotainment system, all I get is Google maps take over the screen, I haven't worked out how to get it to show other apps like spotify or whatever, I never plugged it in, I set it up wirelessly, did I miss something or do it wrong?

android auto kinda sucks on this car. it randomly stops connecting, forcing me to reset the whole infotainment center, and ever since i started doing that now my phone sometimes connects and plays music for a second then stops playing the music, and i have to manually start it via the infotainment or phone. i never once had to do that before the issue started

hmm, I havent had that yet, it seems to auto connect everytime I get in and the icon appears, but as I said when I click it, all I get is google maps.

yeah and sometimes it 'halfway connects' like i have my Android Auto on the left side of the HUD with the music data there, and every once in a while it stops working as in the phone is still connected and playing music but it can't fully load the album thumbnail or the song artist/title and the steering wheel controls don't respond, forcing me to take waze off so i can use the music app to change songs (which is annoying because i wear gloves when i drive so i have to take my right glove off).

i'm just full of complaints today aren't i lol

OK, I worked it out.
I was overwhelmed the day I set it up and didjnt pay much attenrtion, plus I have never used it before soI wasnt familar with how it should look and work.
It was just a button I wasn't seeing.
I added waze, spotify and a few other apps and got everything working.
I've only tried it wirelessly so far, but it seems to work well, it has only been a week, but so far so good.

Yeah the little button
You can also do split screen between two or three apps. Look into enabling developer mode if you have other issues with Spotify

Yeah, it's been rock solid for me with only a few exceptions:
1. If in Waze and I ask for directions via voice command it will sometimes not know which app to use (Maps or Waze) and do nothing or put it into maps but not start it or switch to it.
2. I can't figure out how to force a 2 way split. Sometimes it puts a random location in the upper right corner and minimizes my music player into bottom right.
3. One intersection causes a loss of connection EVERY TIME. It's likely an interference issue and not the car's fault but it's weird as hell. 5G drops there too. As soon as I exit the intersection it's back to normal.

I've had no issues except disconnecting once on a long drive. Probably some interference.
