15,000 Mile Service

Hello,

I just had my cars first service at the dealer.

I’m at 9800 miles and wondering:

if I change out the Cabin and Engine air filters around 12,000 is there a way to update the maintenance minder so that when I get to the 15,000 mile mark my next service won’t ask for doing that again?

Secondly:

what should I expect for the 15,000 mile service?

third:

my front tires were graded 7/10 and rear were 9/10…on if I were to change out the front tires before the rear tires would that be a problem?

You should be rotating your tires with every service for more even wear (I usually do it every 5000-10000 miles). I have a second set for winter so I swap them twice a year. My winters are directional so I just swap front to back, but for my summer tires I send the front tires straight back but cross the rears (left rear to front right, and right rear to front left).

That said, as long as the more worn tires are still in good shape, it shouldn't be an issue to just swap the two worse ones (you're not gonna swap all four if you get a nail in a tire, for example). Just be mindful of their age and wear - if any of your tires are older than 5-6 years old or showing signs of cracking or have low tread, then look into replacing them sooner rather than later.

If you do it through the cluster it’s update all or nothing. If I can recall you can reset selected items through the head unit under vehicle settings and maintenance info. I always just do it with a scan tool.

Seeing how it was your first service I assume it was just a A1 service which oil change and tire rotation. The next one will be a B service which is oil change and inspect the whole vehicle and see what it needs essentially. But at that mileage it won’t need much. It’s probably be a B1 service (oil change, B service car inspection, tire rotation) or B12 (oil change, B service car inspection, tire rotation, cabin & air filter replacement..if you don’t change them)

Full disclosure that I do work with an Acura Dealership and assist with scheduling service appointments

Personally I would expect Oil, Tire Rotation/balance, Air Filters as mentioned, potential differential service and potentially an alignment.

I would just let the service advisor you’re working with know if you do decide to replace them early so they know the item was covered. Doesn’t hurt to use the stores parts too if they are the pricing you’re looking for. If not, you can always order OEM parts from Honda/acura directly as well through the Honda dream shop.

I bought some filters/wipers and will change myself around 12k. I found out how to update individual items. Next service is going to be A1 and I will likely do at Honda dealer since it’s closer. I’d like to use OEM brake pads in case they need replacing by then. Prices are competitive for basic stuff vs my independent options here.

I’m a little confused on the differential service, is that required at 15k? Someone earlier said that the Integra doesn’t require because it’s FWD, idk if that’s correct.

Only the S has a limited slip differential so the A-Spec shouldn’t need the service from my memory.

That's not true - the manual A-spec w/ tech also has an LSD. I believe none of the CVTs have it though.

Correct. They're different diffs with the type s being more aggressive lock, but a spec manual has a limited slip diff and the cvt has an open diff.

Should you flush fluid after 15k miles? Depends... Is it 2 to 3 years old? How often is the diff actually activating (ie how often do you see slip)? A heavily used diff will foul the fluid much sooner, and after 3 years you won't find many fluids that haven't broken down.

Correct. It's part of the cvt gearbox from what I've read. Most cvt require fluid changes every 30k miles, but some are "non-serviceable". I believe acura is every 25 to 30k fluid change?

Regardless, expect full life of a cvt to be roughly 100k miles before it needs a replacement.

Got ya, yes I believe in the manual it’s 30k for transmission fluid fill. Thanks!

I would believe it would show as minder 6. Either way, it does show as a maintenance minder.

That’s good to know! I like the maintenance minder, I think now that I figured out how to update individual items I feel better about it. I like to do certain services at the dealership and more routine stuff either myself or at my local spots.
