Hi, all -

Picked up a dreaded puncture on my way home from work yesterday. Luckily, I was able to limp to my local trusted shop, as I was close by. I have become accustomed to using run-flats on my cars and have come to enjoy the peace of mind with them. Lots of bad luck around here with punctures, as I live in a relatively congested area. Yesterday, reality set it in that I need to wrap my wheels in some run-flats.

I've always been a fan of Conti's, Pirelli, or Yokohama. Yokohama is out on this one. I've had good luck with Conti and Pirelli run-flats in the past. However, I'm having trouble finding run-flats that satisfy Acura's "W" speed rating. I was interested in some Conti's, but they are under the factory expectation and are rated at "V." Right now, on this platform, only thing I am coming up with for 235 40 18 is the Bridgestone Driveguard Plus. My tire guy is arriving at the same. I've never used Bridgestone and reviews are mixed on these.

I guess this is my long-winded way of asking:

1) Anyone running run-flats? If so, what are you using?
2) Anyone have experience with Bridgestone Driveguard Plus on any application? If so, what are your thoughts?

Thanks, everyone, as always.

Just left my local trusted speed shop. Having a set of Continental Pro Contact SSR run-flats installed this coming Saturday.

I've never heard anything but negatives about the ride quality of run flates so I've never considered them.

This. First thing I did on our q7 was ditch the run flats and throw a can of fixaflat and a small 12v pump in the back.

No peace of mind is worth the extra mass and stiffness to me. The Q7 went from sedate to hot hatch with a tire change...

If you just have to have a run flat, the conti are the only reasonable ones that don't add a ton of weight. Their sidewall isn't quite as stiff as some others, but that also comes at the expense of being very sensitive to tire pressure. You absolutely must stay within 2-3 psi of your load range or the tread at the sidewall will start to chunk and the tires will be toast within 5k miles.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I went with the Conti's. Used them in the past and didn't find them unbearable. I appreciate everyone's input.

When I was living 10 miles down a dirt road, I thought about run-flats for a Prius. A guy at Tire Rack said Don't do it. If the car's not designed for run-flats, the ride will be terrible.

The Bride had a BMW Z4 when we met. I assume the car was designed for run-flats and the ride was like concrete.

Right after I got my Aspec I got a full-size spare and jack.

Yes, I agree. On some platforms, I have found run-flats to be very rough and that they add significant road noise. I was worried that the already pronounced road noise on the Integra would be magnified by run-flats, but took the shot anyway. My tire guy assured me I'd be fine and I trust his advice. Fortunately, I find the difference since swapping for run-flats to be negligible on my Integra. The peace of mind for me and the area I live in made the investment worthwhile. Was glad it worked out.

My dealer sold me a wheel, tire, and windshield warranty for 600$. So far used it for one nail to get a new tire. I'm hoping I get 2 nails every year at this point 🙃

I put together a compact spare and jack kit, strapped it down in the trunk. It adds a little weight, but I prefer a conventional spare to either the fix-a-flat stuff or run-flats.
