It's been raining a lot here the past week in Northern CA so I've been driving my other car. I figured I'd get my CTEK charger out to trickle charge the ITS. But i'm not sure if the ITS has an AGM battery or not. The CTEK charger has a separate charging mode for AGM batteries like the one used in my BMW. But I can't tell what battery the Type S uses...

From Dreamshop, I found:
Part Number: 31500-TGG-100M
BATTERY (H561VW-MF)(CLARIOS) (LN2 - CCA=540 - RC=100)

Trying to find out more info on the battery, but haven't found much....

It's not an AGM battery. If it were, the OEM part number would read like this...

31500-TGG-AGM100M

The ITS battery is group size - H5

- A battery group size is an industry standard for car batteries that indicates the actual, physical size for a car battery (height x width x length), as well as the polarity (where the positive and negative battery posts are located on the battery).

The Amp hours are - 61

- This is the rating used to tell consumers how much amperage the battery can provide for exactly one hour.

This is a Maintenance Free battery - MF

- Maintenance Free means the batteries are perfectly sealed to prevent acid/electrolyte/water leakage or loss and therefore do not require addition of battery water hence they are Maintenance-Free.

The manufacturer is Clarios.

- This indicates who manufactures the battery.

The LN2 is your box size: 242x175x190

CCA are your Cold Cranking Amps: 540

- This indicates the number of amps a battery can support for 30 seconds at a temperature of 0 degrees F until the battery voltage drops to unusable levels.

RC is your Reserve Capacity: 100

- Reserve Capacity is the amount of time, in minutes, that a 12V battery can run before dropping to 10.5V. It is measured in reserve minutes. For example, if a battery has a reserve capacity of 150, that means it can supply 25 amps for 150 minutes before the voltage drops to 10.5V.

Thanks for decoding that. What does it mean by "Maintenance free"?

Also on the topic of batteries, during my search, I came across some post of people considering replacing their lead acid batteries for lithium ion ones (Anti-gravity) as they are about a third of the weight. I think BMW uses these types of batteries on their M cars, but they are quite expensive. I wonder what the weight distribution on the ITS is and whether that would help balance the weight...

Winter beater currently
I “splurged” on a CTEK charger too, and waiting for it to be delivered. Went with the CT5 Time To Go for its additional features.

I'm trying to determine the correct mode for a battery maintainer for the Integra Type S, and the variance in information is amazing. Since the S does not have automatic idle stop, I would think the battery is not AGM, but some resources indicate that it is. I might have to get the battery unwrapped from its cover and see what is visible. If anyone can verify with certainty what it is, I would greatly appreciate it.

Best I can tell, a lithium battery will weigh 10-12 pounds and cost $600-$700. So, you save around 30 pounds, for casual track days in a street car? Doesn't seem attractive to me.

Lithium batteries degrade much faster with heat as well. For track use, we like them, but unless the engine bay has a separate compartment for the, I typically relocate to the backseat or trunk to balance weight and keep heat down.

BMW, audi, and others use agm batteries because they like to put them inside the passenger compartment or trunk to balance weight. The one in my q7 sits under the passenger foot well, weighs 70lbs, and costs 500$...its also the size of 2.5 integra batteries.

Timely topic; haven't driven my car in a few days and (I think) the battery is dead. I have a Porsche-branded trickle charger I bought a few years ago and actually never used, and wondering if I should just finally learn how to use it.

I think there is an adapter available for it to plug directly onto the battery, but for now I don't have that. Would it work via the accessory port?

Batteries shouldn't die in a few days, do you have a skeleton draw in the circuit like a dashcam?

You probably have a CTEK/Porsche maintainer, not a trickle charger. If so, yes it will work. Use the standard car mode, not AGM. And no, the acc port is not a hot socket, so you need to attach to the battery. I did it yesterday and it works fine. You should verify that what you have is a battery maintainer or tender, not a trickle charger, which can overcharge if left unattended.

I thought this too. It also sends off every single possible alert on the dashboard I thought was possible; emergency brake, hill assist, braking system, traction control, to name a few. Infotainment comes on but windows can't roll down. Tried to crank, still tries but can't.

This is exactly what I have: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/CHARGER2.html

Manual (it's a pdf so this link will prob only work in chrome):

chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://tequipment-finder.porsche.com/prod/pag/tequipment/Live/TequipmentInfoLive.nsf/0/9D9ABEEE6044F0F8C1257FA4007C2E2D/$file/User_Manual_Porsche_Charge-o-mat_Pro_CN.pdf

It has a motorcycle, car, and li-ion program. I plugged it into the accessory socket for fun and it appears to register that it is dead with it in accessory mode but I obviously can't tell if it's charging or notl; i.e., the "dead" battery indicator light is currently on, whereas if I turn the car off completely that light goes out. The manual suggests it will take several hours to charge so we'll see.

I'm half thinking I just call the dealer for a tow in the morning. I have let cars sit for weeks with no issues. This feels off.

It's not going to do anything in that accessory plug unless you turn on the ignition. It needs to be attached to the battery. It works with the acc socket in the Porsche because it is a hot socket.

I think that having the dealer check it out is a good idea. You might have a battery that needs to be replaced.
