What would cause this?

This morning when my fiancee was heading out - she came back rather quickly.
And was told by another person on the road that she had a flat tire. She drove back to apt and told me. I took a look and noticed that the front tire looked like this.
Any possible causes? Air pop, I don't think a screw would do this...
It was fine yesterday...

That was caused by her driving it with the tire flat for a while and likely at relatively high speed.

To be fair, that wasn't from being a little low... That was flat enough to touch rim.
