Just for reference, tint vlt is measured from outside in, not both ways. A device sends light from one pole at a known brightness and the other pole measures how much light made it through. This drop is measured against a known/predefined curve with known samples and that's what the device bases its % on.

Picture something like mirrored sunglasses. You can't see anything from outside because of reflection, but from inside no light is reflected back to your eye so you can see well. The idea behind metallic and ceramic tints is the same. They reflect more out so it appears darker outside than from inside, with having the same or better reflection properties for uv and ir radiation.

I just got 20% ceramic all around on mine, 70% windshield. I’ll need to report back on how the nighttime visibility is tonight, I only drove it back from the tint shop during the day yesterday. I had 30% on my previous vehicle and it was perfectly fine, but I wanted a little bit of a darker look with the red.

Wow thats 70% windshield? Looks so dark! Its illegal for front windshield tint where i live so was hoping it looked almost clear.

Please lmk how nighttime driving compares to the 30%, 20% looks fantastic tho aesthetics wise

It might just be the angle that the light is hitting it in that picture. You can tell it’s slightly tinted when you walk up to it, but it’s still definitely very clear looking out. I’ve seen some heavily tinted windshields on other cars and this definitely doesn’t look like that (from the inside or the outside).

To be fair, all these tints are illegal in Ohio (I believe it’s max of 70% on front side windows and no tint at all on windshield except an eyebrow). I’ve tinted every car I’ve owned, never been hassled for it (knock on wood).

I'd love to tint my fish bowl...but the last time I had tints on any of my previous cars I'd get harassed and pulled over all the time.

The fines add up quickly, then on top of it now a days having to pay to take it off, then reapply for inspection is a hassle.

I live in NY, not sure if cops are less stringent in other places.

Yeah NY laws suck.

Can you get a medical exemption? You might just have sensitive eyes and a history of skin cancer in the family...

Ime, cops don't mess with cars with illegal tint unless you're doing something else for them to stop you, but each state is different.

I only know one person personally that has a medical exemption for tint, and they're eyes are legitimately really bad.

Unfortunately in this case my vision is just very poor without glasses or contacts.

No family history or anything either that I know of. I do see a lot of people driving around with very dark tints, and I question their sanity because even in past cars of mine that were very pedestrian I'd get pulled over a lot. Just doesn't seem worth it anymore.

Seems unlikely that every car I see never gets pulled over for them, either that or nobody even flinches paying an extra $1,000 a year in fines plus reapplying tints after inspection every single year.

Okok, im convinced i will love 70%. Installer says its nearly invisible, but has the benefits of uv protection and less heat.

Theres no visibility issues at night? Thanks for your input

Jesus, thats insane.
Vast majority of my cars have been tinted, never pulled over. But also never tinted front windshield before so hope it doesnt draw attention.

Im thinking of doing 20% in the back so the contrast makes the front windshield look naked

I've never done the windshield on any of mine, always 35% on the back and sides.

IIRC years ago on my last tinted car the fine ran ~$200 each ticket. I don't think there were any points on your license then, but that may have changed.

Damn thats wild. Must be a massive crackdown.

Cars come with OEM tint thats darker than 35% in the rears. My current car came stock with 35%~ in front and 15-20%~ in the rear. Never had issues.

Drove it last night after taking my wife to and from a “girls night out”, no visibility issues at all. I think time will tell on how well the windshield tint blocks the heat, but I’m happy with the looks.

I accept the idea that my tint may attract law enforcement attention, but I’m lucky enough to live in a state that doesn’t require inspections. I may reconsider my position if I start getting tickets or pulled over constantly, but like I said before, I haven’t been hassled in the past for tint.

Like he said that's probably just from the photo. I have 70% too (see earlier on the thread) and it doesn't look that dark.

As a matter of fact, it's not very noticeable especially in direct sunlight.
