Hi, I drive a 2023 Acura Integra A Spec Tech with the original tires. I ended up skidding a lot during a snow storm that also featured icy streets. I'd be grateful for any suggestions about tires that might work better. Thanks. Elyse

Any winter tires will be better than 4 seasons tires.

I like the Toyo GSi winter tires and Brigestone WS90 personally.

Your best bet would be to have a dedicated set of winter wheels and tires that you put on when Winter approaches and then switch back to your other set once Spring arrives.

If you want one tire to do it all, I have had good luck with Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06's.
With that said, they are a performance tire that will survive in the snow. They're not a true snow tire.

Michelan Cross Climate 2 tires are also supposed to be very good all season tires, but have a price premium.

Hopefully you'll get some more suggestions. A lot will depend on how you use/driver your car.

What kind of conditions are you driving in? Is it 90% dry pavement, 9% icy/packed snow and 1% deep (more than 4") or is Boulder a fairly snowy area.

Like for example I rarely need to drive in deep snow, most of the winter driving danger comes from icy surfaces so I have the Michelin X-ice3. They are just about the best on icy surfaces but suck pretty badly in deeper snow. The new X-Ice snow addresses some of these shortcomings but there are better deep snow tire which is why it's important to know the conditions.

This guy is one of the best tire reviewers online. Here's his light winter tire review

And the extreme winter tire review.

I agree that the 'Tyre Reviews' guy is the best out there, but his results can be a bit hard to apply to the US considering most of the tires he reviews were sourced in Europe. I think he lives in Utah now though so maybe that will change?

Anyhow, I recently put a set of Nokian WRG5 'all weather' tires (3 peak mountain snowflake rated) on my 2024 RDX A-Spec Advance and have been very impressed with their snow performance. They are certainly MUCH better than the Eagle RS-A "all season" tires it came with. I plan to run the Nokians all year long. I too considered the Michelin Cross Climate 2, but went with the WRG5 on a recommendation from a trusted local shop. I saved quite a bit of $$ vs the Michelins too.

If you want a dedicated winter tire, you cannot beat Nokian. They are great in winter weather. For an all season, the continental DWS 06+ are very good.

Just clarifying...

The Nokian WRG5 is an 'all weather' tire like the Michelin Cross Climate 2. It is not a dedicated winter tire. You're right about Nokian winters though - can't beat 'em!

I've been using Vikingcontact 7's in Southern Ontario just fine, tires work great until the snow is too deep for the car.

Right - I have had vehicles with Nokian tires for a long time, both their dedicated winter tires and the ‘all weather’. I just don’t know if OP wants a dedicated winter tire or an all season. I don’t drive my S in the winter that often as I have other options, so the Conti DWS 06+ serve me well for my use. And they come in the stock size also.

I have the Blizzak WS-90s on my car. I ski, so I tend to drive in a lot of crappy conditions and they do good on unplowed roads as long as the snow doesn’t get too deep.

I have a 2024 Acura manual, I use Michelin X tires on. They perform exceptionally well for me. Recently, we experienced 3 significant snowstorms in Canada, and I was able to drive normally during those conditions.

I have Nokian Hakkapelitta R5 on my wife's Civic. They are great. I think they're better than the XIce she had before.

The Hakka's are the best overall, for me at least. I had the Hakka R2 as my first set of winter tires that lasted me 6 seasons. I ended up going with XIce 3 when replacing (this was 2018 and the Snow version wasn't out yet) simply because the Hakka's were so hard to find and the Michelin's more or less the same performance. Note in 2018 there were not many choices online for Nokian, and if there were any, they were ridiculously priced, so I jumped brands.

Anyway, as the Michelin's are nearing end of life, i will be looking to get the R5 to replace. If it'll be 5-10% more expensive, the XIce Snow will be what I get since they are pretty amazing too.
