It's hard to tell how sophisticated the oil life monitor is in these cars, but I know some other makers like GM have a pretty solid algorithm that takes into account quite a few variables like idle time, rpm, oil temp, coolant temp, ambient temp, oil pressure, etc. to correlate fuel and oxidation level within the oil. Ultimately, the oil isn't being analyzed directly for particulate matter and degradation, but I would probably treat the monitor as the longest you should go for OCIs.

As we can see from various % reports and differning mile readings there is an algorithm at play. I do a fair amount of HWY miles so my first OCI was over 10K when it hit 15%. Running it to 0% would likely be 12K+ for my driving needs.

Honda has been using a monitor for quite some time, and people debating online as to whether or not they should be followed has been around for almost as much time.

Do what makes you happy but after 15 years of various Hondas and engines, the monitor has kept our engines running happy.

Trip length is def a factor, I drive only about a 10km daily commute, but 3-4 times a month do 350km each way roundtrip. First change at 10k km about 6mo ago because I didn't want to wait long on the first, but now I'm at ~24k km and the monitor was reading something like 60% oil life... which I disagree with and will be changing today lol.
