I did an oil change myself a couple of days ago on my 24 type S and everything went pretty smoothly. I prefilled my filter and in total put a little more than 5.7 quarts. I did check on dip stick on a cold engine but it seems awfully high, not sure if it’s normal and now I’m doubting if i put in more on accident .

The reading is equally high on both sides of the stick. Let me know what you guys are reading on yours and hopefully it’s similar otherwise I’m gonna do an oil change again.

Also, I dont know if it’s my paranoia, but the car accelerates noticeably slower. Guessing it’s the increased oil pressure

These f'n sticks are such a pain to read, especially with clean new oil. I can't tell from your photo but it should be between the two holes in the orange bit.

Your ass dyno needs calibration: the oil pressure did not change, the car did not change. :)

5.7 qts and off you go, nothing to over think here. It is challenging with light oil to read on many cars not just this one.

Drive 1K, re-check, it should be a tad darker by then.

agreed Provided you got a nice full drain you're 5.7 qts. will be fine, even if it is a hair high.

Was the engine hot and oil warm when you drained it?

My experience has been equally sh!t. I filled up what I'm sure was almost exactly 5.7 quarts (5.4L) but it's overfilled to just above the orange plastic piece. I'm going to get back under the car and drain a bit but i feel like the car doesn't drain as well if you jack it up flat on something like QuickJacks.

Those with ramps or who only lift the front wouldn't experience this since the drain is further toward the bottom thanks to the angle of the car.

Next change I'm going to test out, warm up the car nicely, give it a full hour to drain and then fill it up with only 5L (not starting it) but seeing where it lands on the dip stick. I have a feeling it will be somewhere between the 2 indicator holes and that 5.4L is probably a little too much because there's probably 0.1-0.2L left in the system.

As for your picture, the splotches high on the dip stick are false positives. I'm fairly certain it's oil that is still slowly dripping down into the pan from the fill if you took the picture within 10 minutes of filling.

What Honda/Acura recommends for an oil change capacity on a cold engine will always be high on these new dip sticks I’ve come to realize. If you want to follow “per the Honda service manual”, they want you to get the car to operating temp until the cooling fans come on, let sit for 3 min then check oil level and from my experience it’s always sat between the marks, but a cold engine always shows overfilled

edit: that is if your 5.7 qts also includes your pre-fill. If it’s 5.7 + pre-fill then you might have over filled.

Also if you want to get technical, service manual doesn’t say a pre-fill is needed lol

I change my oil with the car slightly higher in front. Does seem like it's a better angle for a complete drain.
