Forgive me if this is a stupid question.

I've always used cruise control, obsessively, mostly as a way to keep me from speeding (too much).

Every manual car I've had with cruise control cancels it if your tap the brakes (obviously) or the clutch (less obvious, more to my question). My ITS does not do the latter. So if I'm headed into an off ramp in 6th, and downshift to 4th, the car still thinks I want to be driving at 68 mph. I can work around it (there is a cancel button), but it's weird. I've probably owned 25 cars with manual trans and cruise control, and I've never seen this.

So - is this normal, or something I should ask the dealer about? I assume there should be a switch on the clutch pedal to cancel the cruise (as I've had on every other manual/cruise car I've owned), but maybe it doesn't exist?

Mines doesn’t cancel when I hit the brakes, thought it was a nice feature since I drive in traffic a lot. I doubt the clutch would cancel it either, however that I haven’t noticed.

Thank you for your perspective.

To clarify, I don't use adaptive cruise, only standard cruise. That might make a difference, mine definitely cancels with the brakes. My issue is that it doesn't cancel with the clutch. I've never seen that, including a fistful of manual Hondas with cruise I've owned. Just trying to figure out if there's something wrong with mine.

Thanks again.

I know adaptive lets you down shift and stays active. Its a great feature.

Yup, it's a feature, not a bug. I do see what you mean RamVA, in my previous cars I would also tap the clutch as a way to cancel cruise so it took some getting used to.

OK, thanks folks. I guess mine is not broken.

I don't like it, but if that's how it works so be it, I'll just get used to it.

There may be a way to defeat it, but it's probably easier to just train yourself out of the habit.

I too was expecting clutch engagement to cancel the cruise but it doesn't. Maybe if you turn off auto rev match might change it? idk.

I believe this to be a byproduct of the car having the auto distance feature. If you have it set at 65 and it slows you down to 50 because of a car in front of you. In this situation you might downshift to maintain the lower speed or to pass and not need to reset the cruise.

It cancels after a few seconds riding on Neutral.

The issue with cancelling after pressing the clutch is that you can't shift up or down and maintain the cruise control activated.

Just keep in mind that this car needs brake input to cancel the cruise control or just press the cancel button.

Yes, mine works as you describe (depressing the clutch does NOT cancel the cruise control). Very annoying - I wish I could control this behavior. No other manual transmission car that I've ever owned worked that way. It's almost dangerous and has caught me by surprise on several occasions.

We have standard cruise control? Please enlighten me.
This is funny to me. I don’t like adaptive cruise because it slows down right as I’m about to change lanes, lets people in ahead of me and then slows down, etc. I think I happened upon this maybe by accident soon after getting my ITS. My wife’s 2019 rdx is the family road trip vehicle and I am the family road trip driver so I’ve logged thousands of highway miles being annoyed by her ACC, unaware that I could switch it to good old dumb cruise control. Soon as I found it on the ITS I went to her car and found I could do the same. Was a great moment, but was annoyed I didn’t figure it out 5 years prior.
