I don't want to bring my remote with me when I go hiking, biking, swimming. I'd like to be able to leave the remote in the car and take only the physical key with me instead. I haven't been able to figure out how to do this. The lockout prevention setting is allows the car to lock only when it doesn't detect a key. The car will auto unlock if I lock using the physical key from the outside. Any surfers or mountain bikers out there figured it out?

Could always disconnect the physical key from the fob housing, leave the fob in the car and then lock your car using the physical key. It’s not ideal, but it should work.

Yeah, That would be ideal. I tried that, but The car immediately unlocks itself.

Has this method worked for you? Did I do it wrong?

Get an RFID blocking pouch. Put the remote in it and the car won't detect it.

Ah, that is a safety mechanism in place to prevent folks from locking their keys in the car. didn't realize the car had the feature. As one other member stated above, a faraday puch that actually works, will prevent the car from "seeing" the key and you should be able to manually lock.

Ah, I see. That does seem like a brute force solution, but should work if the lockout protection feature is turned off as well. I'll give it a shot.

I understand that simple attempts at blocking RF can be spotty. Any experience on what sort of RFID pouches actually work?

I’ve been able to use the Acura app to lock the car with the keys in it. Did it on accident one time without realizing the keys had slipped out my pocket. Panicked then realize I could unlock it with the app lol

Oh, that's interesting. I have been hesitant to enable the app. I didn't think remote start or remote lock/unlock seemed all that useful. I didn't I could lock the key in the car that way. Thank you.

Ok, I have ordered a pouch. Thank you.
Just beware that pouches tend to lose effectiveness in time. I had good ones, tested them with the FOB in them, and car was not receiving the FOB signal. Then yesterday, all of a sudden, I had the FOB in the pouch and walked near the car, and the lights came on! Car was receiving FOB signal!

So be aware that at some point, with the pouch/FOB in the car and the car locked, if the car picks up a signal, it will unlock. You might not be close by at that time...

Lockout protection is one of the steps required. When enabled it will not allow the doors to be locked when the key is not detected. It does not effect how the vehicle responsds when the key is detected. To do what I want to do will require both disabling lockout protection and putting the fob in a faraday pouch so that the vehicle does not detect the key and will thus allow the vehicle to be locked.

Doesn't the alarm start going off when you use the physical key? It would be nice to have a little waterproof fob like an airtag with no buttons. Volvo/Polestar offer these.
