ITS DE5 Warped Rear Brakes 10K Miles

So I recently went to get my ITS DE5 serviced for it's first official Oil Change. They say that both my rear rotors are warped with the pads needing to be changed as well. I purchased the car in January and it just hit the 10k mile mark. Isn't it too soon for this to happen? The dealer said this usually happens with sports vehicles. Has anyone encountered this issue already? Am I driving the car too hard? The dealers wants to charge a out $980 for both rotors, both replacement pads, and brake electronic adjustments

Rear brakes should wear LONG after the fronts, and shouldn't be an issue until at least 50k miles. Typically.

The exception to this would be hard track driving without disabling the rear torque vectoring. That will kill your rear brakes very quickly.

Iā€™ve seen a few other people mention needing to replace the rear pads at or under 20k miles. however at only 10k, and with warped rotorsā€¦? That certainly seems excessive assuming this car is being street driven at reasonable levels.

Look at the pads with your own eyes and assess. If they have less than a quarter inch on them, it's fine to replace. If you don't feel any vibration under braking I'd leave the rotors alone. Also, get a second opinion.

This is a common way for dealers to make money. A friend of mine took her Honda Odyssey to a dealership and they recommended the same. She took it somewhere else and they said everything was fine. Then the dealership admitted that the tech didn't even look at them.

Warped rears sound like a first. Did they test run out with a dial indicator?

Definitely get a second opinion. If for some reason they really are messed up, I would definitely go with something aftermarket, both rotors and pads, and I would get someone other than the dealer to do the work as well. That quote is way too expensive.

Yeah I thought it was weird too, especially since these are fwd and my front brakes are perfectly fine. I have not driven the car on the track at all.

Thank you all for helping me confirm my suspicion. I will definitely look into getting a 2nd opinion elsewhere. Appreciate the responses! Also the car was never tracked.

If the rotors are actually warped at 10k, that could be a warranty claim, so ask the service manager. I doubt they are. Brakes are not normally a warranty item (they are a service item), but they should last longer than that unless you've tracked it a lot.

If it's just pads you can do it in your driveway in about two hours, maybe less. The rears are a little tricky, I think you have to remove the caliper (I have not done it). On some older Hondas you can just pull one bolt and rotate the caliper out, but I don't think so on this platform.

It's annoying. On most of the '90s and '00s Porsches I can change all eight pads in 45 minutes, from wheels up to wheels down, including swapping the wheels from street to track (or vice-versa), without a lift. But now even they are using solid calipers and it makes everything harder.

I don't know what the sweet spot is on dealer experience, but Acura ain't it. Somewhere between Lexus and Audi I guess. Porsche is fine but everything costs twice as much as it should.

You need to put the tears into maintenance mode to fully retract the rear electric brake.
Autel AP200 is compatible.

youtube is full of videos on how to "retract" electric parking brakes...Brakes aside 10K for the first oil change OP you are a brave man...Godspeed on getting your brakes sorted ifneeded.

My rears needed to be replaced at 15k miles and I replaced them myself, so 15-20k miles for rear pads is common on the Type S/R, does it have any vibration or do you feel anything when you hit the brakes? usually, thatā€™s a sign that the rotors are warped. If not, then you donā€™t need to replace rotors.

If you confirm that your car is actually fine and does not need the maintenance and the dealer was lying to try and drum up business, I think it should be reported to Honda of America. These scummy dealers should not be in business. Or if it is a rogue service manager trying to make his bonus he needs to be let go.

These are some photos I took when my ITS hit 21000 km (around 13k miles). My rear rotors and pads were also done. I believe it has something to with the VSA compensating for the rear? I did end up biting the bullet and replacing them. When i did have to replace them, the rotors and pads were on back order so I ended up using rdx pads on the existing rotors while I waited for the parts to become available.

Funny i stumbled upon this thread today. I was just at the dealer yesterday for a screw removal in rear tire. I had all 4 tires rotated and Iā€™m at 11600 miles roughly. One of the sr techs there pointed out my rear pads are running a little thin. Recommended to get new rear pads in next few 1000 miles so I will do so. Along w tires most likely. Iā€™m uncertain on having the rear rotors resurfaced at that time. I get mixed opinions at the dealership.
