Does anyone know the specs of the OEM lug nut/rim ball seat. German cars use numbers like R12 R13 R14 to describe the seat. Was trying to find the specs on the OEM Type S ball seat for 14 x 1.5 lug nuts. Just haven't seen the 'R' number of the seat.

Hmm, you mean like 60 degree conical seat? you have the rest of the specs above.

I think it is just ball seat. No other specs.

Conical seats may have different angles, but not the ball seat.

If I'm wrong, I'll learn something!

According to this pretty thorough evaluation, they are R14 and same as Porsche:

Can't confirm as I've never looked into this myself though. Always just gotten them from Honda and the radius was never mentioned, just "ball seat".

If you have a drafting template for circles with mm sizing, a 28mm circle should let you confirm if it's 14mm radius.

Think 14 or R14 is spot on to the correct seat. Was looking at some 14x1.5 R14 Porsche titanium lug nuts, just was double checking. They are 1/2 the weight of OEM lugs.

I just measured the oem lug nuts. They are 25.25mm at the seat, which makes them a 12.6mm radius. The better fitment would be an r13

Actually I take this back. The ball section is pretty shallow on the oem lug nuts. R14 is appropriate. You could fit an r13 without any concern as well, especially a deeper one.

What did you measure? The radius in question is the radius of the ball and that is not something you can easily measure without a gauge or template:

it’s only been that way for a few decades with Hondas, so we can forgive you. ;)
Which is strange when you look at 3rd party lugs and they only offer 60 degree conical as direct replacement. I am using aftermarket wheel locks which are conical.

The only time I have seen conicals used on a Honda/Acura is with aftermarket wheels. That is by far the most common lug geometry I see on aftermarket wheels (regardless of brand of wheel or car). I really hope people are not mixing up ball/conical lugs and lug seats on their wheels, since it could lead to trouble when they don't match.

What did you measure? The radius in question is the radius of the ball and that is not something you can easily measure without a gauge or template:

Correct, you trace a path of the curvature and make a circle. The curvature of the ball area on the oem lugs is very shallow in this case, and most curved lugs I've seen are a fair bit deeper, to where you can easily measure the radius since it falls into the size of the lug max width.

In any case, this is a hub centric car. As long as you're not using a cone, any 14mm rounded ball will fit. Whether that's r13 or R14 won't make the biggest difference, but 90% of the lug nuts out there align the bolt size to the curvature size, so a 12x1.5x34 will be typically r12 and a 14x1.5x34 will be an R14.

The game is different for lug bolts... They must match the correct seat in every case because if they don't the bolt can wiggle back and forth. Studs don't wiggle like bolts.
