I live in Canada and for the winter we sand the roads but when the weather warms up that leaves a lot of small rocks all over. These rocks keep getting in between my brakes and rotate causing a grinding noise, more noticeable at low speeds. Anyone else notice this as well? I have had to remove them a few times already.

Happens at least every week where I live. brutal pain in the butt!. The reverse thing usually dislodges them, but you have to pull over right away and do it if possible. I've also noticed if I try to drive faster through my neighborhood it's less likely to happen.

Knock on wood but this hasn't happened to me yet.

Wouldn't this damage the rotor at some point or is the rock presumably softer than the metal the rotor's made of?

It would have to be a big rock lodged in there for a really long time to cause permanent damage. The bigger the rock, the less likely it gets stuck.

But yes, this shit is pretty annoying when it happens.

"But officer, I was only trying to not get little rocks stuck in between my brakes." ... :p

It's not an exact science but I find it happens more when I turn. Like if I'm going absolutely straight, I doesn't happen but if I take a bunch of 90 degree turns, it's that much more likely.

Push the brake shield behind the rotor back so the gap is bigger
This. Or just remove it entirely and profit from the extra cooling.

Just remember to get some cable insulation for the sensor and wire right next to the rotor.

Happened to me the first time I drove the car on a chip sealed road, but hasn't happened since.
