Starting up hiccups, can take a few tries

Had on several occasions, when attempting to start the car, the cranking is cut short and gotta try again, sometimes it takes 3 tries. Clutch in, brake pedal too, and push the button, hear the starter sound and then it cuts off abruptly. Same process, clutch in, brake, push button, and it may or may not fire up all the way. I am guessing the issue is a clutch sensor. Was going to let the wife try the car, then thought about her stalling in an intersection and having issues turning it back on.

I had this happen the first few starts also. Mine was a relatively simple fix. When starting up, I needed to hold the clutch in longer than I usually would on my other cars. I chalked it up to one of the quirks of the car.

I noticed it wants to finish up the whole startup sequence; gauge sweep, start, fire, etc before I can release the clutch.

Not sure if that's your specific issue but mine was fairly benign.

This!

If not, is there a potential that your battery is low, not drained completely but enough that it's not giving it the full juice needed?

Something similar to this happened to me on Friday. I pressed the start button, engine turned over and then it died.

Took me by surprise. I didn't notice how quickly I took my foot off the clutch though so I'll keep this in mind.

For reference, I've got 500 miles on the ticker.

I haven't needed to press on the brake pedal, only the clutch pedal needed.
But yes, if I start to release the clutch pedal too soon, even just the slightest, the car will cut out and stop the start engine sequence.

So yeah to the OP, assure clutch pedal stays down until car fires up. All G

I don't press the brake pedal either. The whole brake pedal thing is weird to me actually.

In other manual cars, I clutch in, turn the engine over, release the handbrake and go never ever having touched the brake pedal. So a lot of time, the car yells at me because I forget to press the brake pedal when I push the e-brake switch.

Leave the clutch pedal depressed until the car fully starts, 99.9999% will permanently resolve this issue.

For that .0001%, get it to the dealer, it's under warranty.

I'll keep it in mind and have the clutch depressed for a bit longer. Going to record vids of my starts in case that doesn't resolve it. The brake is a habit with this car because of the electronic e-brake that won't disengage until the brake pedal is hit.

I've started to just drive and use the auto disengage feature. Works well enough that I've stopped taking it off by depressing the button.

Same here. I have had about 10 different manual transmission cars and this one definitely requires a clutch hold of about twice the amount of time as any other car I've owned or it will abruptly stall and stop.

Agreed you need to hold the clutch longer until the engine is fully started..

ALSO, important note for those that do NOT put on their seatbelts before driving.
safety "feature" is the parking brake will NOT auto dis-engage when you let out the clutch in gear if the drivers seatbelt is not connected.. in this scenario it will also beep at you..

I had this happen for the first time the other day. I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure I had immediately released the clutch after starting which I assumed was the cause of the engine not completing its startup. Now I hold the clutch in a little longer and haven't had it happen again.
